I wish people would quit putting made-up quotes like this in press releases. C'mon Tom even you can't think it's going to be better than In Color or Budokan or whatever!

Is James Garner involved at all?

Wait, Big 3 Records? Really?

Eppy (Eppy), Thursday, 30 March 2006 20:32 (twenty years ago)

Dear God. Why did they name it after their (e.g., my) hometown?

They should have just called it Armpit.

Just wait...you'll fall in love again! 2000+6

Rick, you guys were awesome at Ravinia last year ... I will be sure to be there in September...

U FUCKIN CUNTS NEED A LIFE ---- CHEAP TRICK ROCKS !!!!

FUCK FACE, Sunday, 9 April 2006 02:07 (twenty years ago)

If in fact that is Rick N. up there, this is the greatest ILM cameo ever, even better than Robert Christgau going all DON'T CALL ME. I just bought the reissued Dream Police and I cannot believe how good it sounds. Can't wait for Rockford.

Do you work for the Chamber of Commerce, by any chance?

Anyway, rumor was that Toad Hall was selling the entirety of the store - real estate, contents, and all - for a lump sum. Devastated though I'd be by the loss, by now I'd be surprised if it was still standing.

Are we to assume that "Come On Come On Come On" is 33% better than IN COLOR's "Come On Come On"?

Perfect Stranger is great! Come On Come On Come On is rocking my ass off right this second. Looking forward to the album. NY area show please?

I just heard the stream on their site. It's not.

Convincing myself that each new album they release is the one gets significantly harder over time. I mean, the new songs resemble '70s Cheap Trick in some ways, but they're still dripping with the stink of '80s and '90s Cheap Trick production/writing missteps that have ruined pretty much every album since All Shook Down.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 9 April 2006 17:20 (twenty years ago)

since All Shook Down.

Heh, I guess that applies to Westerberg as well. I meant All Shook Up.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 9 April 2006 17:21 (twenty years ago)

Eh, I can go up to and including One on One; I like "She's Tight" and "If You Want My Love" and a few others. And if you think that's stretching it, I've got a friend who swears that Next Position Please is their best LP...

Handsome Dan, Sunday, 9 April 2006 19:43 (twenty years ago)

I'm not saying there haven't been a lot of good songs since then, but, as far as everything just working for all songs on any album, it hasn't happened since Dream Police.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 9 April 2006 19:50 (twenty years ago)

The 1997 self-titled record is real good, definitely overlooked. Plus it has Hard To Tell, their best song in probably 20 years.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Sunday, 9 April 2006 20:05 (twenty years ago)

*All Shook Up* is their third-best album, better than *Dream Police* or *In Color.*

And *One on One* isn't bad.

xhuxk, Sunday, 9 April 2006 20:14 (twenty years ago)

I also love All Shook Up, can't understand why it didn't blow up huge. I might be too sentimentally attached to Dream Police, as it was my "summer before high school started" album, but c'est le guerre.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Sunday, 9 April 2006 20:26 (twenty years ago)

"Cheap Trick" (debut), "In Color," "Heaven Tonight," "At Budokan," and "Dream Police" are CLASSIC rock 'n' roll albums. After that, Cheap Trick is hit-or-miss, with quite a few nice singles. "All Shook Up" is half excellent, half weak. I have a soft spot for "Standing on the Edge". The 1997 self-titled CD on Red Ant is WAY underrated: strong from start to finish. "Special One" is OK, and it's pretty experimental in the last half of the songs (although Robin Z.'s voice is starting to deteriorate). I'll buy "Rockford," no question, because I've always liked the band and there's always a cool track or two on any release.

R. R. Fingerhead, Friday, 21 April 2006 18:49 (twenty years ago)

anyone know if rockford is being released on vinyl?

mark sensing, Saturday, 22 April 2006 01:48 (twenty years ago)

It is.

Morty, Saturday, 22 April 2006 09:44 (twenty years ago)

let's face it kids, CT are legendary icon's, so many bands, that they have respected, respect them, they are incredible musicians, if half of the artists out there sounded so good, there would be too much good music out there. CT are always challenging themselves, as well as, the times and frankly that's all that matters. Damn it if half of you Rock as hard as they do when you're over 50, I'd be surprised!!

toby ingalls, Tuesday, 25 April 2006 22:48 (twenty years ago)

Toad Hall is still there and we should re-open in a few months. Only a couple days a week at first. If you would like to stop by contact me [email protected] CT rocks!

great news!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 01:47 (twenty years ago)

one thing I can guarantee is that it will sound much, much better live

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 10:48 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
soooo ...... anybody buy it yet??!

I pawed it on Tuesday after work but bought the Walker instead...

still extremely curious. I know SOMEBODY out there has it now!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 9 June 2006 04:13 (twenty years ago)

I've had the advance for a while. Finally played it today. Yeah, I'm jaded.

It's pretty good, even the Linda Perry thing. Robin Zander never ages. No great "Stop This Game"/"If You Want My Love" leap to be heard, but if you think you'll dig it, you'll dig it.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Friday, 9 June 2006 06:25 (twenty years ago)

How's the Walker, by the way? Nice looking package.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Friday, 9 June 2006 06:28 (twenty years ago)

Actually, "Oh Claire" is pretty post-'66 Beatles. Wasn't the short, pseudo-hidden yell at the end of "Heaven Tonight" (the album) called that, too?

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Friday, 9 June 2006 06:30 (twenty years ago)

i feel bad i said mean things then rick n. showed up! rick i'mm sorry i really love cheap trick and have seen you guys like 3 times in concert and you've always been fantastic!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:21 (twenty years ago)

man i'm an idiot! i shouldn't talk shit, i could live to be 150 and never do one thing in my life that's worth half as much as "oh candy" or "he's a whore"

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:31 (twenty years ago)

I'd have to agree, it's pretty damn good for late model CT. Not very consistent song to song but still the best thing they've released in 15 years, maybe even 20. The chorus on the Perry tune works extremely well though it's stretched out too long at the end. And guaranteed these songs will be stellar live.

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:50 (twenty years ago)

If it's anywhere near as good as Next Position Please, I'm on board...

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:56 (twenty years ago)

Wasn't the short, pseudo-hidden yell at the end of "Heaven Tonight" (the album) called that, too?

yep, it was. and it's also called that on music for hangovers. i was lucky enough to be in the audience for that show. cheap trick was definitely too big for the room.

Lawrence the Looter (Lawrence the Looter), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:59 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
I am shocked at how good this album is. I pretty much wrote off CT after Dream Police.
