A friend that I trust recommended it to me. The inter-tron-net tells me that it is back after a long absence with issue #18.

What do you know about it?

It's Jessica Hopper's zine that she started when she was a wee lass in Minnesota in the early '90s.

it's only pure, undiluted genius!

i guess she started it because Cake wouldn't let her write for it. El Guapo didn't approve.

it is also home to some of the finer Sapphic delights of the literary 'zine scene. totally fuckin' punk rock to boot.

I honestly think HIOQI was the best zine around in the late 90s, hands down, regardless of what you think about the woman some call Stressica Hopper*. Funny, varied, smart, all that.

* who I think is great, so, make of that what you will.

Great writer, great zine. I have the first four issues!

The only issue I have was the Un-Unwound issue, where Jessica laments that she wasn't able to get an interview with Unwound, which was the main piece... (which I thought was funny because Unwound are/were very amiable, approachable folks, but just don't play the "we're interviewing right now" thing very well at all, but are very talkative informally -- so I was surprised that even socially retarded me got to "interview" them before she tried and failed.)
