Yello - "Solid Pleasure" or Dud?

Just bought this for ten bucks, and I've never had a personal copy to really give a good listen.

I know Trevor Jackson said this was one of the greatest albums ever, and more influential for him than the whole No Wave scene. Not that his opinion trumps anybody else's, but it is a fairly big shot out.

Thoughts?

Interesting facts?

(also found Lizzy Mercier Descloux - "Funky Stuff" 12" ... yes!!!)

This is definitely one of the greatest albums ever, on the basis of side one which is perfect. Side two isn't as strong. This is almost as good as Stella, their best album. The first side mostly runs together with brilliant transitions, some quite startling. Far ahead of its time, and a huge influence on techno and other electronic music.

You Gotta Say Yes to Another Excess >> Stella > Solid Pleasure >>>> Claro Que Si

I'm always surprised at how much better Solid Pleasure is than Claro Que Si. Sometimes I prefer Solid Pleasure to Stella

Claro Que Si has some great songs, but doesn't hold together as an album as well as #1 Solid Pleasure -- brief sophomore slump followed up strong by You Gotta Say Yes, which is _legendary_, every second as confusingly weird as it is razorsharp danceable and I envy anyone who hasn't heard it yet

I even think One Second has moments, though that's as late as I can safely go.

The liner notes for the Faust box set mention Dieter Meier stopping by Wümme & recording some music, I am still holding out on getting to hear that tape someday.

The new reissue of You Gotta Say Yes is the way all reissues should be done, haven't seen any reviews anywhere

four years pass...

Stella = their best album by miles right? I can't recall what the critical consensus is, or indeed if there ever was one other than you know that, the first 4 albums were their best era.
