albums that bend in an incredible way

my copy of "power, corruption and lies" might as well be a flexi-disc, it's so flimsy.

My copy is quite solid. Mind you, it is a cassette.

I remember buying a couple of albums (just after record companies realised how much more money was to be made in cds so we're talking late 80s, early 90s) that were so thin they were translucent

Some of the ones in the early seventies, you could see sunlight through them. That was the oil shortage though.

My copy of the Bongos' Drums along the Hudson is so warped that I am amazed it actually plays. The other LP I have that is REALLY bent is Miles Davis Four and More.

mp3s don't bend, do they?

mcd (mcd), Friday, 31 March 2006 13:21 (twenty years ago)

My copy of Chronic Town is translucent.

But I have two albums by the Jimmy Castor Bunch (from c.a. 72) and on the sleeves, the thin vinyls are introduced as an advancement. The thicker vinyls, the manufacturing company claims, are more in danger of breaking then the flexis...this surely is against the emphasis nowadays on 180 grams vinyl edition. Or was this just a cover up because of the oil...

Probably...I am to green...I have to think more conspirically

80's and early 90s vinyl is rubbish. It was all recycled as they thought it was a dead format and therefore not worth spending cash on. My copy of Le Soliel Et Pres Moi is so thick you could throw it at someone and take their head clean off!

LOU REED

Milestone 2fers from the 70s. I have a Johnny Griffin that I don't even want to play, it's so thin.

Sparkle Motion's Rising Force, Friday, 31 March 2006 14:13 (twenty years ago)

I was amazed at how thin my copy of Eat to the Beat is. It's almost like the label saved the vinyl for a better album.

My copy of Talk Talk Laughing Stock on verve is very thin..

A lot of RCA vinyl from the late 70's was also pretty bendy...

That's RCA's Dynaflex, source of the aforementioned Lou Reed and Jimmy CAstor records.
