ok, so Tom Verlaine is back after 14 years with those 2 albums, one instrumental the other (songs and other) not.
you can find 2 songs streaming in the link above.
sounds good, like a minimalist post rock.
is it surprising? not really, cause it's Thrill Jockey.
i love those dramatic keboards in "orbit" - like a contradiction to it's minimalism.
the 2nd songs sounds like "The Bad Seeds", 1984 era, are playing with him.
good news!

i'm not really hearing the bad seeds. both tracks sound like they could have come from some great lost '83 verlaine record. i'm looking forward to this.

o it's so good, so good. the instrumental album isn't as good because there's nothing there except the songs which are soundscapes half the time. but 'songs and other things' is really so much like 'touch' and 'flash light' that it is a) scary and b) awesome

one month passes...
Songs & Other Things is SO, SO GREAT! Possibly his best solo album - absolutely beautiful guitar, great vocals (really!) backed up with excellent drumming throughout. Textures and tunes (with BIG, yet understated hooks!) and *that* Verlaine atmosphere. Anyone else got it yet?

that "nice actress" track is really great, but it drives me crazy that it ends so quickly! just as it's about to get heavier and more sinister. agree about the drumming, and textures.

also agree that the instrumental lp is a big dissapointment. i'd even settle for the 'Songs' lp without the vocals!

anyhoo, i'm glad he's back.
