i think it's rather good, even though it sounds like a nickelodeon commercial 75% of the time.

It sounds better than their last two records, but I haven't heard anything they've done that matches the sheer headfuck epilepsy-pop of Sous Hit.

I was so surprised by the addictive quality of this new album. If this doesn't make you want to get up and start dancing, I don't know what will. I'm impressed by the subversive humour as well. Should be one of my favorites of this year.

It's called Wow Twist.

I had no idea they had a new album out

Tokyo Ghost Stories (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Monday, 3 April 2006 01:54 (twenty years ago)

Huh? I speak as a long-time fan: The new one is DAT Politics' worst one yet. WAY too goofy and juvenile for its own good.

brettino's bounce (Da ve Segal), Monday, 3 April 2006 02:41 (twenty years ago)

tell me then, what's the best? I love this new one. It's playful, fun, full of engergy and life.

earlier ones are noisier & centered more on the 8bit game electronic sounds. with each album they've been moving away from the noise and towards more straightforward pop / kid melodies. (pretty much ever since Aelters left the band -- he took the noise with him for his solo records)

if you like the new one, work backwards, though my favorite of all of them is the 3rd, sous hit, largely because that one brings the dissonance. it's almost psychedelic, but also with concise punky pop structures, like 70's punk singles updated to fucked up 90's video game music. They've always had the sound of pure joyful jumping around happiness though, dancing to pure data.

it's a total mystery to me why this band isn't huge in the states.

So the absolute greatest thing humanity has ever known, then?

So the absolute greatest thing humanity has ever known, then?

I think it is, yes. The greatest thing I can remember at least.

Ryan WS (fffv), Sunday, 7 May 2006 16:02 (twenty years ago)

i like it... it reminds me of stereo total and les georges leningrad, a lot.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 7 May 2006 16:08 (twenty years ago)

I still can't get 'Pie' out of my head. Gah.

I should check these guys out... sounds like it might scratch the itch Mouse On Mars have been slightly failing to reach last couple of albums?

new new wave of new wave new rave (fandango), Thursday, 2 November 2006 03:17 (nineteen years ago)

naw, you're not crazy. the new album is great. the last one, on the other hand, was complete garbage.

in response to the last poster, it's funny you mentioned mouse on mars because DAT politics and MoM actually came to a similar place with their albums this year. DAT politics still doesn't hold a candle, but those groups are returning to form after terrible 2004 albums. but best DAT politics album? it's comparable in quality to villiger and plugs plus, but it's no tracto flirt. (i haven't heard sous hit.)

Godfrzej Ljang (godfrzej), Thursday, 2 November 2006 03:44 (nineteen years ago)

Sous Hit (reissued!) is by far the best thing they've ever done, unfortunately it is seeming more and more like an anomaly. The next best thing to it is the complete discography of Yasushi Miura.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 2 November 2006 05:48 (nineteen years ago)

2006 US tour w Kevin Blechdom begins in San Francisco tomorrow night, six weeks of shows.

dates are at their myspace page. they're really great live.

milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 2 November 2006 08:20 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, new MoM isn't so bad at all, but I keep wanting to put "Untitled" (as in Autechre) on when it's playing instead, they seem somehow compatible to me...

I just feel bad I can't find enough of a reason in there to buy it (Varcharz) when I already have Idiology with similar (if less PHAT) MoM-go-noize stuff on it. I like MoM heaps :(

Sous Hit reissued eh? Good. Couldn't find a copy googling last night!

I need to start a new new "records to buy when I am in Berlin" list...
(p.s. cheers :) )

I've also wondered why DAT Politics aren't more popular. Actually, not so much "popular", but why people seem to actively *dislike* them. They seem pretty fun to me.

Hopefully will make it to show tonight, if not sold out, and can down 12 or 13 caffeine pills.

Blitz Gazer is sounding pretty cool. Anyone else heard it?
