Speaking of Paul Simon, have you heard his new song "Outrageous"?

It's kinda cool. Which I hope carries over to the rest of the new album. You know...kinda coolness.

Didn't know he had something coming out, and I've completely skipped the last two albums, but this post intrigues me. Will try and track it down...

i preordered the album on amazon because they had it cheap and caught me at a moment of weakness. i wasn't keen on the last one, felt too much like a fallback position. i got the feeling he was looking for soft landing after his broadway fiasco. maybe this time he'll have a little more on his mind.

also re the broadway fiasco, i actually liked the capeman album a lot more than you're the one.

I haven't been able to track the song down...I heard it on Sirius Disorder.

It's ostensibly about growing older, which seemed to be a theme last time around. The song has an odd refrain - "Who's gonna love you when your looks are gone?" - repeated over and over.

I just caught it once, but I think it's atmospheric, rhythmic...which makes sense.

I heard "How Can You Live In The Northeast," the album opener, on the radio last night. It was a pretty good song, very straight-forward, slightly-faster-than-mid-tempo, guitar-centric rock. Someone was doing electric guitar solos. The lyrics were basically anodyne one-worldism: with everything that challenges and threatens humanity, why do you define yourself by your region/race/religion, etc. Reasonably clever, lots of Simonisms, but not very vivid. Preachy. It sounded just like him, though, except for the rockiness of it.

It didn't make me want to run out and order the album. I did like it better than anything he's done in the last, say, 15 years, and I thought it was an interesting choice of style to bite: classic rock.

when i saw him a few months ago, he was pretty guitar-oriented. it was interesting.

I can't believe it took 7 posts for someone to mention The Lionel.

Why the F did he keep saying "OUT RAGEOUS" on whatever award show that was?

Oh, I forgot. That was still pre-irony. People probably looked at each other and smiled, fully charmed by the stupid repetition.

Amiright?

Cuz he was wearing a silver rhinestone jacket, Justin!

God, I hope he hasn't been affected by whatever disease John Cale seems to be suffering from...
