Man Man blow anyway. Least it's not Portugal. The Man . Now THAT is a bad name for a band.
― trees (treesessplode), Friday, 12 May 2006 16:17 (twenty years ago)
Portugal The Man is a better name than Volcano The Bear...
speaking of bad names, TT The Bear's is a bad name for a club...

Did Tapes 'n' Tapes choose Tapes 'n' Tapes because it was stupid, too? Because it is even more stupid. But I wouldn't have guessed that they chose it because it was stupid (whereas I would have guessed that Man Man chose Man Man because it is stupid). Which actually makes it more stupid, but not funny stupid like Man Man is funny stupid. If Tapes 'n' Tapes chose Tapes 'n' Tapes as a funny stupid name, though, it is, IMHO, a funnier funny stupid name than Man Man.

I love this band. Lately they've been calling themselves The White Tigers, is this a name change or shorthand?

Ha! Given that it was Bakshi, I think that may've been the point. Some of the stuff they got away with seems a little surprising now, not least all the thinly-veiled references to gayness. It was a forerunner of Ren & Stimpy in that respect.

I know nothing about Portugal. The Man. It's definitely safe to say that hating a band name does not necessarily mean hating a band. I've been listening to the Shit Robot single a lot recently, for example.
Finally, I have never heard them, but So So Many White White Tigers is THE BEST NAME FOR A BAND EVER. Anyone hating on that is silly.
