The Best Of Both Worlds?

It's the R. Kelly / Jay-Z collabo album. Since there's quite a few Jay-Z fans on ILM, do you find yourself in a dilemma because you can't stand Mr. Kelly?

The best songs are Green Light and Shorty. I really did try to find them.

How interesting. How bizzare.

Until I hear it, I won't decide. As it is, the only R. Kelly song I really know is "I Believe I Can Fly," which was certainly generic slop but didn't raise my hackles (then again, only hearing it a few times as opposed to everywhere and anywhere helps).

Jigger Kelly Not Guilty!

last night my roommate came home with a bootleg of it and I excitedly threw a CD-r at him and asked him to make me a copy. then we listened to it, and i withdrew my request.

Jay's presence hasn't been this minor since the guest-crowded Vol.2: HKL. he only really shines a few times, especially "Honey" (those high notes he hits on the first verse!!). i might be able to warm up to more trax over time, but i don't feeling like forcing myself to dig around for them. a lot of the time, Jay just throws one lazy verse per song, and a few times I caught him barely even rhyming or making sense ("Hove's back like Rogaine" - wtf?). he's gone through the motions before, but usually he can make it a lot more fun to listen to. a lot of the entertainment value comes from R.'s "Feelin' On Yo Booty"-esque over the top moments, like the vamping at the end of that ridiculous "Power Of The P-U-S-S-Y" song. It'd be too easy to blame this on "too much Kelly, not enough Jigga" - Jay could have put more energy into it if he wanted to, but it sounds like he just came in at the end of a day of recording and contributed his RDA. and the Trackmasters beats are nice for a while but get very samey very fast.

Yeah, that record is fucking terrible. If they had any sense they would shelve it and act like it never happened. I, too, have the bootleg version and thank God I got it free. I'm no fan of R.Kelly and I can only take Jay-z half the time, but I don't see how even die-hard fans can love this shit. And that Trackmasters production is just as dry and limp as I remember it being back when they were hot. For those of you who have downloaded some of the tracks, you have no idea how ham-fisted this thing is in it's entirety. It sounds like the whole fucking thing was thought up and recorded in a single night. The lyrics from both parties are as trite and shallow as they come. I'm not surprised about Kelly's lows, but for somebody running around claiming to be the "God M.C.", I sure as fuck can't tell. What really kills me is that for 2 assholes who always brag on how much money they have you would think that they would spend some of that dough on decent production. I'm serious, this is some real cheap, Casio sounding shit. I guess they blew the production money on Cristal and strippers, 'cause it for damn sure ain't here. I mean, The Blueprint was a great sounding(though shallow) record, so what happened? Honestly, it's as piss poor a record as you're likely to hear all year. Goddamned god-awful.

i think "hove's back like rogaine" is kinda awesome. but yeah, this record does sound like a poor thing. i cannot begine to imagine how decadent the videos will be; the mind boggles.
