I'd say "Like A Prayer" is insubstantial beyond the singles.

...the singles, and 'keep it together'. (my favourite song off like a prayer (apart from the title track) is 'oh father')
i'm tempted to say s: everything, and d: don't be silly
― The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 08:49 (twenty years ago)
Actually, I'd meant to type "Like A Virgin" there, but it holds pretty true for both of them.

My favs are of course, "Everybody(in dub)""Angel" is a great example of pop sincerity.Call me crazed, but I'm still really digging on "Sorry" it strikes me as having a really true urgency about it.Obvious choice, but it's hard to fuck with "Into the Groove" in almost any given setting."Burning Up" is of course the most steller valley girl pillow fight ever.

Destroy "Erotica" in particular, but also "Bedtime Stories" and her pointless "Evita" and "I'm Breathless" albums.
"American Life" is better than its reputation, but still not among her classics.

1. rock-ish stuff "interesting" but instantly forgettable. 2. self-seriousness takes over. boring for the very first time.3. depressing, she's repeating herself for the very first time.

And D: American Life. Music has "Don't Tell Me," at least.
S: everything else. I still feel her best album is the self-titled one. Fun from start to finish, and her most influential work for sure.
