Recharging MP3 players overseas

I'm going to France in the fall sometime and i'm wondering about potential damage to MP3 players that recharge (Tons of songs)vs. ones you can buy batteries for (not so much songs...under a gig).

I haven't went & bought a player yet, but my folks just went to Italy and even with the converter plug, people in their group were getting their hair dryer smoked. Anyone have this problem going over???

Buy an MP3 player you like.

Rechargeable ones can support the US and European voltages because they use a little wall power adapter to charge.

Hair dryers aren't this fancy and burn out.

Dear Phil,

The mains power supply in most of Europe is 320 Kbp/s. As long as you ensure your songs are encoded at this rate or above, you should be okay.

Hair dryers use a massive amount of electricity at once - heat, motion, etc. - same with coffee machines, heaters, etc. - they will blow fuses. An mp3 player should be fine.

Also, most mp3 players are rated for 110-220 VAC and 50-70 hz. Hairdryers, no.
