I haven't went & bought a player yet, but my folks just went to Italy and even with the converter plug, people in their group were getting their hair dryer smoked. Anyone have this problem going over???

Rechargeable ones can support the US and European voltages because they use a little wall power adapter to charge.
Hair dryers aren't this fancy and burn out.

The mains power supply in most of Europe is 320 Kbp/s. As long as you ensure your songs are encoded at this rate or above, you should be okay.
