Wrong Impression

is a 45 by Natalie Imbruglia that I keep hearing on R2. I don't know if it's out yet, or whether it has been / could be any kind of hit. But I think it's tremendous!

Do you?

I think it's the sound of the armageddon, and not in the good way.

It reminds me of the Sundays.

ok, i admit i actually think this is a pretty spiffy pop song. yeah, it reminds me of the sundays too. very catchy - nice production. and her hair is longer...

I think the Sundays aspect is deliberate. But I can't help being suckered by it. Slide guitars etc too. Jeez, I could almost see myself *buying* this record.

Pinefox buys first new record since 1994 shock. News goes round the world.

Well, I haven't *actually* bought it, Cookie. I'm just thinking about it. But I have to admit - even that is a crazy departure.

The song is quite a step above that 'Torn' fiasco... even if it is a Sundays retread. Still, I think I'll actually be able to somewhat stand the ten thousand times it'll assault me in all its commercial sugary glory. To other Imbruglia types (and all the Top 40 bands of the moment) - Please follow in Natalie's footsteps and mimic the jangle pop of The Sundays and bands of their ilk (even though they (the Sundays) were just pretenders to the Smiths to begin with). But lose the icky studio polish, or at least half of it.

(if all the actually already good chartpop groups — you know who you are boys and girls — could please ignore tim's advice, that would suit me bettah)

It's rubbish. Radio 2 was better when it played Butterscotch and White Plains.

Robin Carmody, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Saw the video today, it's very...bright. Natalie riding around the town on a bike. Just like Morrissey.

Ally C, Wednesday, 20 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I liked her better with short hair.

As calculating as can be, but.. hooks!

Heard this again on Ken Bruce show: sounding better than ever.

When I first heard this I thought it was a total Sundays rip, but I thought it was just me.

Nicole, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yuck. mannered in the worst possible way, and i don't like the long hair.

minna, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I heard it on the radio, it was followed by Gilbert O'Sullivan's 'Alone Again, Naturally', which I thought was a much better record. I don't like the slide guitar on 'Wrong Impression', but I do like her long hair and I bet she looks fantastic on a bike.
