Dexy's Midnight Runners (ironically enough!)
The Mothers of Invention (but what went on behind the leader's back?)
Sun Ra & His Arkestra (ditto)
Throbbing Gristle (let their hair down somewhat after they split)

The Osmonds - won't even touch caffeine, for religious reasons.
Adam Ant - "don't drink, don't smoke, what do you do?"
...and all that "straight edge" lot, obv.

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band (little bit of fibbing going on there)

Daniel Bell (DBX) and Josh Wink (I think). Seem to recall someone asking Bell how he could record something like Losing Control when in fact he never had (as a result of drugs that is).

Henry Rollins, right?

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:24 (twenty years ago)

I can think of many bands who aren't drug users, but almost none that actually talk about it, either in interviews or in their songs. I wonder why that is.

This should be harder: Bands/artists completely open about their non-usage of narcotics AND Don't Suck.
I think from the listed only King Buzzo would make the cut. Seriosly, The Mothers of Invention, Sun Ra' Arkestra and Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band ???

Anyway, I like my music narcotized, stoned, drunk, rare amazonian frog lick-ed or at least caffeinated & sleep deprived. Best all at once.

Apparently Syd Barrett was the only really "pro" drug user in Pink Floyd.

Linda Perhacs has said that Parallelograms was not influenced by anything stronger than coffee.
