Japanese Band Name Text

I haven't spent a lot of time in Japan, but on the club schedules, the band names will be in western script about 2/3 of the time. And sometimes like on Amazon.jp, if you want to find a band, you have to search both in western script and in Japanese script, like for the band Supercar, type "Supercar" and then "スーパーカー".

Anyway, is there any rhyme or reason to this? It gets tedious.

Also, any recommendations on japanese mailorder -- GEMM has some stuff, amazon.jp is OK, hmv is expensive, Escalator and Jet Set are good, tokyo recohan is the shit. Any others I should be checking out?

(Also, give froogle.com a try to find distributors.)

the script thing depends on the band. Some bands write their band in Roman letters, some kana, some do both. One band will all be filed in the same place in the shops, usually (but not always) Western CDs are in alphabetical order, Japanese bands in kana order.
