i can only imagine it's a nightmare but i've been asked to dj and they suggested funky house.

you could look towards a lot of the west coast house labels/producers for a slightly less annoying definition of 'funky house.' to me, a lot of it sounds like updated 4/4 uk garage beats over funky basslines. lawnchair generals, jt donaldson, doubledown records, cpen, etc., etc.

another old track i am re-digging at the moment is Elastic Reality's (aka BT & Deep Dish) 'Casa De X' but that's kind of on the deeper side i guess.

hopefully one could also get away with French house as funky house esp. old Cassius ('Chase', 'Feeling For You' and other tracks from the first album)
