"Moon River", "Theme from Shaft".

Arthur, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's what, though, two out of seventy-four? Hold on, "Over the Rainbow." Three. But there must be more.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nope. "The Theme from Shaft" is pretty much it.

Alex in SF, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The winners from the last twenty years hurt my chest when I look at them. Ewww.

Alex in SF, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, here's a mostly complete list.

*checks last twenty years*

That's pretty sludgeworthy, I admit.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Worth mentioning I suppose that those are twenty pretty average (Working Girl) to completely awful movies (uh, pretty much everything else minus a couple of the Disney flicks) too.

White Christmas When You Wish Upon A Star Que Sera Sera

Justyn Dillingham, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Is "The Windmills of Your Mind" the Dusty Springfield song? Cause that's not bad.

Alex in SF, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

what about "ive had the time of my life" from dirty dancing? classic track, no?

gareth, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No.

Alex in SF, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Flashdance poos on Dirty Dancing from a great height, musically.

jacob, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

my my smile at least you can't say no to the beauty and the beast

willem, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I can say no to virtually anything created at the behest of the Walt Disney corporation. I liked Beauty and the Beast a lot more than most of the other flicks they've done lately, but that song (albeit less so than some of the others--Christ the fucking "Under the Sea" thing is suicide inspiring) is still pretty damn obnoxious.

Alex in SF, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

fame! (pisses on flashdance and dirty dancing from, like, k2.)

moi, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

anthony - i will disqualify you from the hordes if you don't watch out, 1973's was the best...what kind of queen are you

Queen G, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Apparently the kind who has tempered his Barbara Streisand/Shirley Bassey worship with something approximating taste. ;)

Alex in SF, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I know it's sentimental etc, but I *like* Moon River. I also agree with Gareth about I've Had The Time Of My Life, but then I can't seperate that from the film and Dirty Dancing is a huge bonding experience for many females my age.

That's a point actually: do they judge the songs on musical merrit alone, or on how well they work with their given film? (Especially since all were composed for film scores?)

Anna, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Randy Newman says, "I can't believe I won for this." Well, he probably deserves it after so long. However, Paul McCartney should've called his song "This is the Name of the Movie", and Sting has no right to make me hate mandolins.

dleone, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wasn't aware I was among Dylan hataz.

Keiko, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

even tho the song is nothing special, Disk Tracy was a great movie, so all of the last 20 winnres didn;t come from bad flicks

g, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)
