Who???? ... they are not as good as STRAWBERRY SWITCHBLADE.

Their first album, "Serpentine Gallery," is better than anything Strawberry Switchblade ever did. Sadly, it was their only worthwhile album. BUT THEREIN lies the interesting comment: for their second album, "Bread and Jam for Frances," was an ill-advised attempt to mix glitter-goth sillyness with hip-hop flava. Their vocalist adopted this really snide attempt to sound demeaning, and a lot of the lyrics make these attempts to diss. The ones that don't are even worse: "Witches they ride on broomsticks ya know/angels use wings to catch the wind's blow/and they're moving as far as they can, as fast as they can."

Of course, for 'interesting' you could substitute 'laughably bad.' That might be the appeal, whether they intended it or not -- the whole album is irreverent goth-hop, with occasional instrumentals of things farting around in the dark. Peronally, I'd rather spend my money on something else with a little more lasting value ;)

Dare is right--Serpentine Gallery is good and atmospheric and pleasant girly-goth. The second one is crap. They were once considered Goth's Great Hope but that didn't pan out and then M Manson hit big.

They sucked live too. I saw them with Big Electric Cat (who were amazing) and Christian Death (Valor-era... I nearly vomited into the vertiginous abyss).

I had "Bread and Jam for Frances" and it was crap. I sold it. Give me sunshine blind any day!

six years pass...

durring a stopover in Santiago, Chile, i went to the dunkin doughnuts to buy a water and they were playing Switchblade Symphony.

this was perhaps the most "wtf is this music doing here" moment in my life.

i should have started a new thread, as opposed to posting this to something no one is going to read. :/
