Coolest Album titles

I don't remember if we've done this one. And a second thread could be spawned for coolest song titles, but I think Minutemen and Beefheart titles would probably dominate the thread.

This all because I just thought of Christmas's "Ultraprophets of Thee Psychick Revolution" - which is a damn cool title. But Funkadelic probably has some better ones:
Standing on the Verge of Getting It On
America Eats Its Young
Free Your Mind...And Your Ass Will Follow
The Electric Spanking of War Babies
One Nation Under a Groove
Uncle Jam Wants You

But then "Goat's Head Soup" and "Trout Mask Replica" are also contenders. There's gotta be a ton of 'em... are any of them NOT psychedelic or funk?

My favorite title in a long time belongs to the most recent HNIA album (which isn't bad itself): Someday My Blues Will Cover the Earth

paul, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Have you ever bought a record based on its title?

N., Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

..New answers (please, nothing by Sting, Billy Joel, America or other lite-rock crossovers. No matter how cool one of their titles may seem, they aren't cool because they were created by clowns.)

Dave225, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'Welcome to Mexico...Asshole', Pigface
'You Goddamned Son of a Bitch', Revolting Cocks
'I Love Marijuana', Linval Thompson

Oh yeah - and here's the Best name for an album thread, fact fans.

N., Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, seems as this has almost been done twice before - so make sure it's the coolest title - not the funniest or best or most introspective.

e.g
"Bat Chain Puller" - cool.
".. And the horse they rode in on" - clever, funny. ..but not cool.

All these plays on a familiar phrases remind me of yuppie boutique or restaurant names. Lettuce Entertain You, indeed. If they're all cool, then what is the problem with Billy Joel or Sting titles? The Dream of the Blue Turtles could be an awesome pet shop.

I Know You're Fine, But How You Doin'? was cool.

There is something to be said for the Breeders' forthcoming _Title TK_, just in terms of sheer attitude. _Chairs Missing_ is a good one too.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 28 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Alex, yes, that is a real album. It's a compilation of European stuff from... er, the early 80s?? I can't remember. It's mostly rubbish, but I wouldn't part with it for the world.

Another great one that probably doesn't count (it's sound FX): More Death And Horror.

Another fun Firesign Theatre title:

Sean Carruthers, Sunday, 31 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You can turn any DIO album upside down and it says "devil" does that count??

Tracer Hand, Monday, 1 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nope, otherwise Hawkwind's Space Ritual wins again. Best album art ever (beats Black Moses by a fair degree).

I think Let's All Have A Picnic And Barbecue Some Corrupt Not Self- Programming Dee-Jays is the best title posted, although See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang, Yeah, City All Over! Go Ape Crazy! is a close runner-up.

Alex in SF, Monday, 1 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

DOMESTIC(KCKCKCKCK)

nathalie, Monday, 1 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like that record, but Aural Guerrilla is better and has a cooler title and a great cover and some nifty little cartoons and a fab poster insert. . .

Alex in SF, Monday, 1 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Since a couple of people have mentioned it, I should explain "Title TK"--it's what journalists put in their copy when there's not an official title yet, or if they can't remember what it is and will fill it in later; it's a phrase that's never, ever supposed to make it to the actual printed page.

Douglas, Monday, 1 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

two years pass...
A bit like "No Answer" by ELO. Apparently someone called Jeff Lynne from the states to get the new album title, but there was no one at home. So the correspondant wrote "No Answer" on his pad, someone else saw it, and hey presto, the message was taken to be the title.
