one of the first wax poetics issues had a good article on using plywood to build these, very simple...i built six of them for probably 45 dollars, each holding a milk crate's worth of records.

milk crates stack up really well. I hear they tend to be pretty sturdy that way, when held together with duct tape.

another ghetto concept.

i love crates but they're impossible to find now, and they're not that sturdy stacked on their sides really. depends how dormy you can handle your living space i guess.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

Plus milk crates are too small, most of them. They're like 12-inches on the nose when they need to be 13.

I bought something similar to this at Lowe's -- wire shelving that can be adjusted so the shelves fit LPs. Mine holds about 500 and cost like $60.

www.boltz.com is what I use for my CD's, but they also provide for LP's.

Expedit from Ikea thirded. That Lowe's one looks quite nice, but how do you stop the record from falling out the sides?

S- (sgh), Thursday, 14 September 2006 02:36 (nineteen years ago)

i have the lowes ones! i bought four of them. but i got them at home depot in philly. and they are less than perfect. but they were cheap. i still use them. but they really aren't made for the weight of records.
