one year passes...

The Big Black thread reminded me of these pussies.

Seriously, any of the kids write stuff like this these days?

'Cannibal' used to sound fucking huge. Anybody played it recently? Still any good?

That album's in a box waiting for the ridiculously dreaded vinyl to MP3 saddothon that I threatened to start a year ago when I bought one of those no doubt hopeless MP 3 shiteo turntables - the stylus is going to be as good as a cornflake isn't it?

Hope Yow is recovering. I like the way he's always looked about 39.

They played in my home town when I was in high school. I still have the flyer.

Of course, I didn't actually buy Berzerker or find out about the show until a week after it happened.

:(

That Pissed Jeans release last year was the first recent thing in many many years that really reminded me of the AmRep / early Sub Pop sound. Though it didn't have the dark humour in the songwriting that many of those late 80's/early 90's bands did.

Snake Apartment (on Parts Unknown, Pissed Jeans pre-Sub-Pop label) and Clockcleaner also do fair approximations of 80s/90s "noise rock". Clockcleaner's been discussed here recently. Nowhere near as inventive as Scratch Acid, but that's to be expected. Still pretty damn good.

Anyway, I didn't realize that Scratch Acid gave their last in Seattle. Big Black, too.

I should get that Snake Apartment album I think

It's good! Took a few spins to grow on me, 'cuz it's pretty much just a wall of bluurgh. Gotta play it fairly loud to cut through the muck. No songs to speak of, but some funny lyrics and a heavy pummeling.

Plus fucking awesome artwork. The vinyl's worth it just for that.

contenderizer, Friday, 8 February 2008 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

the touch and go thing was great.
maybe people should let this period rest in piece, instead of trying to imitate it again.

If you like this sound and you like metal, you should check out Portland, OR's Black Elk (Crucial Blast). They pretty much combine Jesus Lizard and Slayer into one band. Totally rad.

Apologies if I get one or two of you excited about Scratch Acid playing Seattle again.

I loved the first Pissed Jeans s/t - and 'I'm Sick' was funny (ha ha) with an out of control the guitar - Boring Girls too - the humour was there.
The more recent Pissed Jeans was just that to my ears. Pissed jeans. Not good. A real let down.Perhaps I should listen again.

I heard some Stnnng - started off really promising '.....Nebraska'???? and then sort of .... maybe it's my alzheimers.

Nate, are Black Elk really as good as you suggest with that combo?!

Fer Ark, Friday, 8 February 2008 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

Nah, you're right about the difference between the two Pissed Jeans records. 1st is great, 2nd kinda boring. Hard to say why exactly, the new songs sound great live.

And Nate's right about Black Elk. Haven't heard any recorded stuff, but I've seen 'em live in Seattle a couple times. Fair to say they combine Jesus Lizard and Slayer influences, tho they're not quite up to the level of either. Yet...
