So, if all and any MP3/download can be counted, what will suddenly and magically be in the singles chart FOR EVAH!!?

Gnarls "Crazy" back into the top 20?

Actually, also, think on this scenario:

Advert uses old music track, people immediately d/l it, result = top twenty literally from nowhere, and the news pages go: Blimey! Sailor and "Glass of Champagne"!

I would assume that there will be some rules as to tracks being officially designated as singles (from the date of their release to radio as same, probably). There could then be a fixed cut-off point (6 months after, say) at which sales stop counting towards chart positions, and a given song could only be re-designated after another set period of time.

Yes I love bureaucracy, what of it?

Website Pulse Rated, which features new bands, welcomed the proposal, saying: "If the new rules come into force, it will be no longer mandatory to place your record in a record store. Chart success will become purely a marketing exercise, and if an unsigned artist can work with a distributor and then generate enough support online, they will be able to top the chart without signing away any of the rights to their music."

Sky Larkin’s 'Beeline' in Download and Watch formats:

If you pre-order a ‘Beeline’ promotional analogue watch (that’s right folks, no CDs, just watches) from the Wichita Recordings online store, you will receive the three single tracks in mp3 format immediately… and on 26th January, the watch will arrive on your doorstep...
