Does anybody know if this is available or even released? Not Greg Weeks, but the girl who sings most of the songs.

helena espvall? i think its out, saw it in forced exposure's update.

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think that's the one. Looks like she is the cello player. The singer is Meg Baird. I have seen her play solo and once with another woman, I believe her sister. I just got a compilation from Arthur Magazine with a really great song by her on it and have heard about a solo record, wondering if there was any news on it. The internet won't tell me anything.

peter x (bucksbreeze), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

somehow i missed "singer" and "girl who sings most of the songs." oops.

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

there's also the baird sisters thing she does.

Looks like the Baird Sisters have put out some cd-rs.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

Looks like she does indeed have something coming out on a label called Tequila Sunrise, but I couldn't find much info. You can listen to a song on this guy's WFMU show: http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/20444

It sounds great!

peter x (bucksbreeze), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

Freaky! Meg's doing a Fraser and Debolt cover on that radio show.

Tequila Sunrise put out Jack Rose's "Dr. Ragtime" side project. I have feeling this will be released in limited numbers. Well worth the hunt, though.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

Who are Fraser and Debolt? I love the song.

peter x (bucksbreeze), Thursday, 21 September 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

Fraser and Debolt were a Canadian folk duo in the early 70s. They put out two albums, which as far as I know haven't been reissued. You can find em on Soulseek. Pretty cool psych-folk.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Thursday, 21 September 2006 16:17 (nineteen years ago)

Someone has put up a website for them. Looks like you can download the albums in WMA format.

I've heard this song on the local college stations a couple of times in the past week now. It's beautiful. I hope an album is out soon.

peter x (bucksbreeze), Thursday, 28 September 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
7" is available - apparently the b-side is from her forthcoming LP. http://www.fusetronsound.com/label.php?whomart=BAIRD,MEG

mcd (mcd), Sunday, 22 October 2006 23:29 (nineteen years ago)

Some blog streamed it, too. I listen to it all the time. Such a great song. Looking forward to the full album.

I still want to hear the original version of this song, too.

peter x (bucksbreeze), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

the original is available for download in the .wma format from the link 4 or 5 posts upthread, fyi

yeah it's good! not as good as the first one, but still really strong. more originals than covers this time, more fleshed out instrumentation.

It's very, very good. It took me over a year to fully absorb Dear Companion, despite its simplicity, so I'm willing to give this one the time it deserves.

Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Thursday, 15 September 2011 17:14 (fourteen years ago)

really nice dusted review

reggie (qualmsley), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 03:01 (fourteen years ago)

first impression of this is a lot more positive than my first listen with the last espers album. it's more evocative, gentle and quiet but less mess to clutter whatever it is she's channeling

reggie (qualmsley), Sunday, 25 September 2011 18:10 (fourteen years ago)

playing in brooklyn tonight w/ p.g. six and steve gunn...

one dis leads to another (ian), Sunday, 25 September 2011 22:14 (fourteen years ago)

Really good show, she did a bunch of new album songs with Marc Orleans and Chris Forsythe who play on the album and then a couple solo tunes. Her voice is so moving.

Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Monday, 26 September 2011 05:48 (fourteen years ago)

why is marc orleans always out of tune?

I thought I knew the name Meg Baird from somewhere. Ethan Miller was circulating that soundcloud track around Facebook. Has me hoping that a live set will appear on Dime or somewhere as well as some official studio stuff appearing for sale from somewhere.

Stevolende, Friday, 27 March 2015 11:44 (eleven years ago)

damn this is killer.

tylerw, Friday, 27 March 2015 17:43 (eleven years ago)

I find Greg Weeks way more interesting as a solo artist than Meg Baird

the geographibebebe (unregistered), Friday, 27 March 2015 17:54 (eleven years ago)

but this Heron Oblivion Song is great

the geographibebebe (unregistered), Friday, 27 March 2015 17:56 (eleven years ago)

weirdly i don't think i've sought out any weeks solo stuff - love Espers though. he's pretty much retired from music, right?

tylerw, Friday, 27 March 2015 18:00 (eleven years ago)

he was on the last (maybe before last) fursaxa album, which i guess is awhile ago now. speaking of people who seem to have disappeared from music making.

no lime tangier, Friday, 27 March 2015 18:07 (eleven years ago)

I'm pretty sure Espers III was the last project he worked on unless you count guest appearances and production work. my favorite solo album of his is Awake Like Sleep -- droney psych-rock with some nice '60s electric organ/synth lines. it's a lot less guitar-based than Espers, and a couple tracks even remind me of Stereolab. I also really like the Noa Babayof album he produced.

the geographibebebe (unregistered), Friday, 27 March 2015 18:20 (eleven years ago)

never heard awake like sleep before, this is very good (and on spotify)

i love this record so much. here is a cool article from relix of all place about its recording: http://www.relix.com/articles/detail/refuge_at_the_end_of_san_francisco_eric_bauers_mansion_and_the_new_new_psychedelic

adam, Monday, 7 March 2016 16:59 (ten years ago)

sweet ... older brother just saw them last night in san diego, he was extremely psyched.
was just checking out this Meg Baird cover of the Dead's "To Lay Me Down" (at the end of this WFMU show). part of a fundraiser premium w/ all Dead covers from some pretty cool people.

tylerw, Monday, 7 March 2016 17:01 (ten years ago)

Yeah, great band. Saw them last spring opening for Kinski so you can imagine that was a hell of a double bill.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 7 March 2016 17:04 (ten years ago)

is that the avant ghetto premium? his tape from last year was excellent.

they announced a full tour last week, i got my tickets for the nyc date in may.

adam, Monday, 7 March 2016 17:06 (ten years ago)

yeah, that's the avant ghetto thing ... chris forsyth, MV&EE, wooden wand, bunch more of those kinda folks.

tylerw, Monday, 7 March 2016 17:07 (ten years ago)

i think "oriar" is the best song in the universe currently

adam, Monday, 7 March 2016 17:10 (ten years ago)

^^^this

holy shit this record is so good.

cwkiii, Wednesday, 9 March 2016 01:12 (ten years ago)

might've been mentioned but this 20-minute jammer is an excellent addendum to the new album: http://heronoblivion.bandcamp.com/track/funeral-funk-49

tylerw, Wednesday, 9 March 2016 15:39 (ten years ago)
