The Rolling "tabaccer" thread, or Do you smirk tabs or not?

Never did.

Not particularly anti-, but tend to get unwell in heavy smoke-filled places. Used to affect eyes, but since wearing contact lenses, eyes now unaffected.

This is not a thread for the debates, right or wrong. Just more:

1) Do/did you?
2) ever given up? How long?
3) preferred brand/stuff
4) attitude.

Oh No It's Dadaismus! (Dada), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

(Yeah, I know. Have asked for move)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

Yes
Yeah, maybe 9 months
Camel Lights
Fuck the world

Marmot (marmotwolof), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 08:57 (nineteen years ago)

Did. For 18 years off & on.
Did. 14 years and counting
Salem Lights.
Thought they were too expensive at $1.50 a pack (in 1992).

J Arthur Rank (Quin Tillian), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm! Bought a packet today, for a colleague, same brand as me mam used to smirk. £5.39! Blimey! No wonder I never did. Spent the money on albums mate.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

1) Yes, everyday
2) few months at a time, always for the wrong reasons (ie. for money, or a girl, instead of health)
3) royals mostly, lucky strikes as a treat, berkley menthol when i'm feeling fruity
4) i still think smoking makes me look cool (i will not be able to quit until i grow up...)

Slumpman (Slump Man), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

1) No/Never
2) N/A
3) N/A
4) Not that bothered by smoky places, but I hate the stale smoke smell on clothes. It's not going to bother me when the ban comes in

Ed (dali), Thursday, 21 September 2006 05:40 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, what will bother me is people stepping away from the conversation to smoke outside.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 21 September 2006 05:41 (nineteen years ago)

And the distressing rise in the use of of fucking patio heaters.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 21 September 2006 05:41 (nineteen years ago)

yes
yes, gave up june '04, had absolutely none until may this year, had four since, three of those in the last fortnight
marlboro reds when i was hardcore, styvo lights later on
had to give em up for my voice and am much better off but secretly crave them pretty often

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Thursday, 21 September 2006 05:44 (nineteen years ago)

1.Yes
2. Not really, but my smoking patterns are weird - I go all day or 2 days without, then smoke half a pack in an evening. Also I only took up smoking 5 years ago at age 30, because I am a royal twat
3. Peter Jackson supers. Theyre cheap and gross but I've got so used to them, better brands taste too leafy and tobaccoey or something? I like me some Djarum clove smokes now and then tho.
4. Sommat gotta kill yer, eh?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 21 September 2006 06:38 (nineteen years ago)

1. i do
2. i have. twice! once for TWO YEARS when i was about 21 or so. i gave up again in January this year, which lasted about 5 months.
3. golden virginia hand rolls or marboro lights
4. "lol"

it's teh_kit! (g-kit), Thursday, 21 September 2006 06:44 (nineteen years ago)

"royal twat" made me giggle

it's teh_kit! (g-kit), Thursday, 21 September 2006 06:44 (nineteen years ago)

then i coughed up a big lump of tarry phlegm and passed out from lack of breath

it's teh_kit! (g-kit), Thursday, 21 September 2006 06:45 (nineteen years ago)

can we have
5. how many a day? (or for the hardcore, "how many at once?")

it's teh_kit! (g-kit), Thursday, 21 September 2006 06:46 (nineteen years ago)

I'd also be curious to know "why the hell did we all start, like the nobs we are?" =)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 21 September 2006 06:53 (nineteen years ago)

1. Off and on, infrequent now.
2. Never been addicted. Maybe I'm a freak, but no matter how much or how long I've smoked at times, never had physical cravings for them or any sort of withdrawal from stopping.
3. Nat Shermans, Lucky Strikes or American Spirits if I can't find Nats.
4. Mellow.

Mainly stick to enjoying a nice cigar from time to time anymore.

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Thursday, 21 September 2006 06:55 (nineteen years ago)

the clue's in the question, Trayce.

it's teh_kit! (g-kit), Thursday, 21 September 2006 06:59 (nineteen years ago)

1) Do/did you?
Thre years. Once a month then, half a pack a day now.
2) ever given up? How long?
No.
3) preferred brand/stuff
Lucky Strikes. Spoiled myself on them and everything else tastes bland in comparison now. Weening myself off the unfiltereds because I'm dying fast enough already.
4) attitude.
Not one of those self-despising smokers yet. Still, though, I have a goal to not ever smoke after graduation.

Jonathan Pierce (studentism), Friday, 22 September 2006 02:58 (nineteen years ago)

1986-1995. Pack a Day, two on a party night. Camel Filters, then Craven A's in London, then L&Ms in Florida, then Marlboro Lights in Mass. Camel Lights the last three years in Pittsburgh.

Earned enough Camel Cash for a Diskman and a pair of pajamas.

Smoked my last one near the end of October, listening to Ellington's "Fleur African", stubbing it out on the fade out. Writhed on the floor for a day, spent several nervous hours in Jerry's Records across the street on Murray Ave. Only visit when I never bought a thing.

Haven't cheated since then, still crave them hard about once a month. Love going into smokey clubs.

bendy (bendy), Friday, 22 September 2006 03:08 (nineteen years ago)

1. Did. 1991-1996 1.5-2 packs a day almost immediately upon take up
2. quit entirely due to lung crap-out
3. preferred: marlboro lights and reds, occassional menthol obession, hated: camels
4. attitude: really skinny

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 22 September 2006 06:40 (nineteen years ago)

1) I do, 0.7-1.0 packs daily.
2) I've given up for as long as 36-48 hours, on two or three occasions.
3) All-natch'l Nat Sherman Cigarettellos.
4) "It's my wife, and it's my life." "In the long run, we're all dead."

mark 0 (mark 0), Friday, 22 September 2006 08:41 (nineteen years ago)

1.Yes, coming on for 9 years now (i'm the only person I know who took them up in their 20s)
2.Managed 6 months once.
3.Marlboro Lights or Lucky Strike Lights depending on which country I'm in (the Luckies in Asia usually taste like shit). Seven Stars if I'm in Japan.
4.Well, all my friends do it.

Jacob (Jacob), Friday, 22 September 2006 08:42 (nineteen years ago)

1. yes
2. 16 months once, 1 week last spring
3. whatever
4. fear becoming a non-smoker because NSs are ALWAYS BITCHING AND WHINING ABOUT SMELLS. Food, other people's clothes, everything. Smokers do not sniff the air upon entering a room and say 'did you cook something in here?' or 'when's the last time this carpet was cleaned?' You can't relax around non-smokers unless you've had a shower 20 minutes previous and even then they'll SNIFF SNIFF SNIFF and comment on whatever soap or shampoo you were using. I hate non-smokers and do not want to be like their paranoid twitchy sniffing sniffy sense-of-smell-enslaved selves.

dave q (listerine), Friday, 22 September 2006 10:46 (nineteen years ago)

the last post was prompted by me feeling all warm and anticipating the stuff i'd put in the oven until GODDAMN NON SMOKER walks into the kitchen, SNIFFS, says 'cooking something' and opens the fucking windows and walks out. way to ruin the fucking mood! have a fucking smoke a relax or GO WORK AT A GODDAMN AIRPORT FOR THE K-9 SQUAD LOOKING FOR DRUGS you non-smoking piece of shit. whew, need a smoke now!

dave q (listerine), Friday, 22 September 2006 10:50 (nineteen years ago)

the most recent ex-smoker convert i know will not eat anything except bread, because the 'smell' (?) of anything else makes them retch. and society is trying to convince me that this is a good thing?

dave q (listerine), Friday, 22 September 2006 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

d00d, man cannot liev by bread alone. you have to tell him!
