wow, that narrator, Nate Harrison.. what a morbid, lifeless speaking voice, like discussing the Amen Break is totally sapping the life out of him. My comments are off-topic, sure, but I hate people like Nate Harrison for their myopic intensity about music, spawned by their neurosis over being cool, which results in their tight-assed anaylsis: "Jungle in particluar (it being an amalgamation of reggae toasting, heavy baselines, and high-speed breakbeats) centers it's aesthetic almost entirely around the de-construction of the 'Amen'."

I bet this guy wears a labcoat to concerts. Sorry for the OT comments!

mat maiellro (chelvis), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 05:53 (nineteen years ago)

so in other words, "tight-assed" = "accurate." thanks for the heads up.

Still haven't tracked down the Winstons drummer but my recent interview with the singer (who says the new Winstons is strictly a trademark cash-in) was one of my favorite interviews I've ever done. I'll pick up this story again and run with it once I'm not on deadline for other shit.

eight years pass...

the creators of the amen break never got paid - the drummer who played it died broke and homeless - and a gofundme page has been set up to rectify this

Listening to that Nate Harrison. Really annoyed that he pronounces it Ah-men. Is he brain damaged?
