"I know what she needs. I'm not gonna give her a record about rolling on dubs..."

Maybe it's just the rap-ist (HAR HAR) in me, but I'm a little unsettled at seeing somebody of Preemo's stature doing crossover work. I can't really explain why. If he wants to get money, get money.

It seems like ever since The Neptunes, the dubious goal of producers is to "cross over." I feel like somebody of Preem's track record shouldn't need to pander to pop audiences.

"Not really pandering, maybe this is all he's got left in him, etc. etc." I know. This just bugs me a little and I don't know why.

Like hip-hop isn't popular?

and what (ooo), Friday, 13 October 2006 20:17 (nineteen years ago)

not abt whitney but also from the same article and damn would that be exciting:

In addition, Nas and Preemo hope to release their long-brewing collaborative set soon. "[Nas] told me he wants the next album to be the one that we finally do, just me and him, all the way through -- just a Premier and Nas album," says Premier. "We'll see if that goes down."

Ned, the point I was trying to make was that obv. some of the shit Gangstarr did was groundbreaking, whereas I get the sense that this has a pretty slim chance of being same. OMG SOUL DIVA WORKS WITH HOT RAP PRODUCERS is not new ish, and I get the feeling that all the recent goodwill for that sort of project was exhausted w/Emancipation of Mimi anyhow.

Matos, the reason this makes me twitch a bit more than the Xtina thing did is that I sort of wrote it off as a one-time thing. "Oh, Preemo's working with Christina. Huh. I guess that could be alright." This makes it clear that he's more interested in mainstream pop success, which is what I'm bitching about.

Maybe this is all just me grasping for some conscegneti shit to hold over non-muso pop listeners. *shrug*
