Does it bother you when a reviewer misquotes lyrics?

This is one of my biggest pet peeves, and I can't decide whether I'm being totally ridiculous (because who honestly cares? the only people who will pick up on it are those who've already heard the song in question, and we don't really need to read the review anyway) or eminently reasonable (because even without liner notes, most lyrics are not that hard to figure out, and if they are of the unintelligible variety then why are you quoting them?!?).

(and I think the review that set me off may have been a case of "lyrics printed in liner notes obviously contradict those sung on album", but I refuse to make an exception for these cases! if anything, that's even worse, because it tells me that you just read the liner notes and didn't really pay any attention to the song!)

The worst has to be Jeremy Paxman on University Challenge. The team correctly identified the song Voodoo Chile ... and he didn't give them the point, saying this was a different song, pronouncing it chilli.

if that had been me, I think I would've set a guitar on fire and then smashed his face in with it

I am on the side of whatever's not the side of righteous-nerd anger.

I'm sure they didn't answer "Voodoo Chile", whatever the pronounciation.

You know what Barbara Strysand said...

Haha, Paxman didn't know that Voodoo Chile is pronounced "Crosstown Traffic"

I'm sure I'm guilty of this at times just due to deadlines and brain-keyboard misfires. In other people's reviews, it only bothers me when they're quoting the lyrics positively (like, don't they even KNOW what they LIKE?).

Of course, I've done that, too, so fuck.
