Ooh shit - this christmas looms a little more desperate than usual in the Kulkarni household . . . . my children . . how will they eat?

I mean, seriously, how?

neil kulkarni (Clifford C. Clavin), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

‘Dance music with its leftfield niches seems to be reinventing itself with gusto, I have never seen such a healthy worldwide scene,’ said Dave, ‘So to possibly lose this magazine says more about how dance music has been managed by the soul boy mafia.’

Sadly, he will be the next Alexis Petridish. (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

useless new UK music magazine: playmusic

I guess I can always go back to the circus but I suspect I'm too bulky to go back on the Wall of Death anymore: still, growing tits and a beard shouldn't be a problem (it certainly hasn't been for the last two decades).

ooh who are the 'soul boy mafia', they sound fun

Ullo Ned!

Really do hope they find a buyer - they've never really fucked with copy as far as I'm aware, the people running it are cool and lovely and writing a page about hip-hop every fortnight has always been the gig of my dreams.

Anyone know any benevolent billionairres with a few mil to burn?

neil kulkarni (Clifford C. Clavin), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

I heard on the grapevine they had fifteen potential buyers, was that just bragging?

Seems odd.

A shame I guess but at a time when dance music is popular again surely all ver middle class kids who have gotten back into dance music post-electro would buy the dance mag that actually mentions DRUGS ie Mixmag.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

i'm sure i read - probably on test industries - that the mag's possible demise has been over-stated.

dh (djh), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 06:28 (nineteen years ago)

DJ Mag is good and Neil's reviews are easily one of the best things in it. I really hope it doesn't go - where else can you read 200+ capsule reviews every fortnight?

They haven't capitalized on this breadth of coverage enough IMO - they should at least put the reviews on the website after a month or so. Also, distribution at the moment is shocking! I used to buy it in Sainsburys but you can't even get it in WH Smiths now.

ewmy (ewmy), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 08:36 (nineteen years ago)

Dance music has been on a downturn for years, so it is no surprise that dance-oriented mags are struggling with sales now.

Hopefully, Mixmag and King Size will both be defunct in 10 years too :)

you might be dead by then

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 09:45 (nineteen years ago)

King Size - has been gone for years, it was a EMAP magazine that covered nu metal and rap in 2001
