That preordering thing on Pitchfork, of course this is a must have, how will one be able to get ones hands on this "super rare" live show and 7"? I do not understand which stores participate.

I'm not sure if it's something a lot of stores are doing or just selected ones. At least in Chicago, my friend's store Permanent Records (Near Chicago and Damen) is doing the preorder thing.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

I see. I was sort of looking for an online store which ships to Europe but I guess that's out of the picture then...

strom (strom), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

Oh no no, I didn't mean that it was store only. I'd just e-mail matador and ask, I'm sure they'd figure out something for you.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

insound is a participating retailer, i believe.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 20:25 (nineteen years ago)

The live show is download only, I believe.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

Insound worked great, thanks!

The concert is only a download, yes, but probably great anyway.

That live show is really good, if you don't have it, it's totally worth it.

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

a taste of wows to come

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

I was at that show! It was the day of the The Tonight Show taping (w/ Drew Barrymore & Harry Shearer). The opening bands were further (woo!) and Rollerskate Skinny (awful, awful awful!)

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

What's the deal with the two teaser downloads on the Matador site, they say they're from upcoming release but then you get the ones from CRCR? C'mon!

Iago Galdston (Iago), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

Nevermind, they work on matablog, just not on pavement's mp3 page..my bad

Iago Galdston (Iago), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 23:49 (nineteen years ago)

Holy shit, the live cut is soooo good

Iago Galdston (Iago), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 00:06 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, that's pretty alright!
i'm stoked.
esp. after leaving my WZ copy in Fort Collins, CO.
i hope it's well played...

I didn't like Wowee when it came out, but listening to the reissue has totally changed my mind.

don weiner (don weiner), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 01:06 (nineteen years ago)

how so, don? is it the sound quality or just listening to it again 11 years later?

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, I'm totally wrong, I've never heard that show! I was mistaking it for a different show.

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

so you probably didn't bootleg it either? sweet.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 17:35 (nineteen years ago)

i remember being completely baffled by 'Wowee Zowee' when it came out. i mean, it seemed as if some of those songs were half-finished and shit and goofy, like "Brinx Job". however, over that summer of '95 the album became my fave Pavement album. some of Malkmus' finest are on there, like "AT&T", "We Dance", and "Grave Architecture". "Rattled By The Rush" is one of his most rockin' guitar solos as well.

I dunno bros, this Half a Canyon on Stereogum today is pretty um, slow. A little bit boring until the end? Kind of okay, kind of nothing too exciting. . .

TROGDOR (Mr.Que), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 22:13 (nineteen years ago)

I think it sounds really good - total stoner smeared jam! Makes me glad I did the preorder thing.

morris pavilion (samjeff), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

(Oh it's on the CD, not the downloadable show. Well OK - makes me glad I'm re-buying the album)

morris pavilion (samjeff), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 22:47 (nineteen years ago)

how so, don? is it the sound quality or just listening to it again 11 years later?

the quality is better than I remembered it to be, but in all seriousness I probably haven't listened the original Wowee CD in probably a decade. But even at 192MP3 it sounds pretty great, sound quality wise.

I'd forgotten how diverse the album is, too. The sequencing of the original track is really jarring, and in a good way. what I'm starting to realize is how much I love Pavement, especially in hindsight. I kind of hated them in the late 90s but have spent the past few years totally going back and asking myself why.

don weiner (don weiner), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 23:18 (nineteen years ago)

hated them? too hyped?

Robert Acosta (Rob 77), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

just sick of reading about how great they were, and a bad concert experience that sort of confirmed it.
