"Precious," by Depeche Mode.

Some of the new Junior Boys songs, especially "Count Souvenirs", sound like DM, though not necessarily Enjoy The Silence. Is Ladytron close enough? I was listening to Violator just yesterday and was severly impressed by just how good ETS still is.

"On the Other Side" by Silke Bischoff. Sounds almost identical I think.

"Precious" is still the most OTM choice here. Let me add "It's No Good" by Depeche Mode too.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 19 October 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

i like the lyrical theme of 'it's no good'

also, thematically 'enjoy the silence' reminds me a little bit of 'behind the bars' by elliott smith

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Thursday, 19 October 2006 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

An early Depeche Mode track that has kind of the same mood as "Enjoy The Silence" is "Leave In Silence".

As for non-DM, I find it hard to find anything in the same mood. Other synth music is usually either not as dark or considerably more noisy, with technically less skilled singers. The closest I can get is some of the stuff from the first two Human League albums (before Ware and Marsh left) or maybe some stuff by early 80s Japan.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 19 October 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

Apoptygma Berzerk OTM!

"Suffer In Silence", "Unicorn" and "Spindizzy" to thread IMMEDIATELY.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Thursday, 19 October 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

"Love Is A Shield" by Camouflage.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Thursday, 19 October 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

"Fade to Gray" is still the most OTM choice here

Also, "David" by Gus Gus.

"Creep" by Radiohead

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 19 October 2006 16:38 (nineteen years ago)

"Her Ghost In The Fog" - Cradle of Filth

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Thursday, 19 October 2006 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

Ultravox might qualify.

Search the acoustic version of "Forever Young."

The Mad Puffin (The Mad Puffin), Thursday, 19 October 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

Didn't see the "Fade To Grey" reference, but, yes. That one is very OTM.

Perhaps Ultravox except they would usually have a hard time keeping the mood so "down" for an entire song. At least during the Midge Ure years, they'd usually have some bits of pomp and circumstance thrown into each song.

"The Chauffeur" by Duran Duran maybe?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 19 October 2006 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

The Ladytron of choice here is probably "Destroy Everything You Touch."

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 19 October 2006 21:24 (nineteen years ago)

Didn't see the "Fade To Grey" reference, but, yes. That one is very OTM.

"The Chauffeur" by Duran Duran maybe?

Electronic - "The Patience of a Saint"

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 19 October 2006 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

and come to think of it, "West End Girls" by Pet Shop Boys (kind of a stretch but it still has the icy sophistication)

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 19 October 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Bertine Zetlitz may have some of it. Check out her latest single "Midnight", for instance.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 19 October 2006 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

''There By The Grace Of God'' by the Manics.

Didn't see the "Fade To Grey" reference, but, yes. That one is very OTM.

And then Kelly Osbourne's "One Word" should work as well.

"You Think You Know Her", Cause & Effect.
