Prosecutors said yesterday that the driver told her bosses at New York City Transit in September that she had hurt her shoulder on the job and could not report to work. She began collecting workers’ compensation payments that month, they said. Then she went on a European tour with her band.

Last Thursday, the bus driver, Valerie Scroggins, was arrested. She has been suspended from her job and faces charges of grand larceny and insurance fraud.

She will also be asked to return the $13,348 she collected in workers’ compensation when she should have been at the wheel of a bus instead of playing the drums, according to the Brooklyn district attorney and investigators for the transit agency.

Ms. Scroggins, 44, whose band, E.S.G., was once popular on the New York club scene, is one of four transit workers — two bus drivers, a subway train operator and a subway car inspector — who have been arrested in recent days and charged with making false workers’ compensation claims, Charles J. Hynes, the district attorney, said at a news conference in Brooklyn.

But Ms. Scroggins’s case was the only one that took investigators to Europe, where they videotaped E.S.G. concerts in Amsterdam and Dublin in November during what Mr. Hynes described as a four-country tour.

Well, obviously, hurt her arm too much to work but not too much to rock.

I don't know...a hurt shoulder would really affect your driving, but you could definitely sing with a hurt shoulder. I guess she made money off the European tour, so it's technically wrong to do it, but it's not like it's Enron level or anything.

Maybe this explains why she barely played on the last album.

ten months pass...

damn that would be weird if Scroggins' route was the B61 and all the kids on it were listening to ESG on their iPods.
