― electricsound, Friday, 16 November 2007 02:31 (eighteen years ago)

1. kubichek - method acting 2. stopstarts - mentor 3. dears - you and i are a gang of losers 4. pull tiger tail - let's lightning 5. misty's big adventure - i can't bring the time back
lol indie
― electricsound, Friday, 16 November 2007 02:43 (eighteen years ago)
Worst year ever. So bad that even Ween made a shitty album.
1. Kanye - "Champion" 2. Kanye - "Stronger" 3. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons - "Beggin' (Pilooski mix)"
I can't think of two others worthy of this list.
― Mr. Snrub, Friday, 16 November 2007 03:23 (eighteen years ago)
uh
i've posted to this thread a couple times before, but without looking at what i've posted before - here's the top 5 tracks that come to mind right now (and i'm drunk soooooo that might play into my choices):
Blonde Redhead / 23 Caribou / Niobe Grinderman / No Pussy Blues Low / Murderer Spoon / The Underdog
― stephen, Friday, 16 November 2007 03:57 (eighteen years ago)
So. . . is there any established consensus on until when is it to early to have a finalized best of list for the year, because I'm getting really ahead of myself and kind of, uhhh, forgot theres still a month and a half left of the year left (and as it goes, December tends to be the best month of the year music-wise for me).
― mehlt, Saturday, 17 November 2007 01:14 (eighteen years ago)
Hmm... This could be fun.
Jack Penate - Torn on the Platform Soko - I'll Kill Her Boat - (Im a) Donkey for Your Love Kings of Leon - Fans The Mountain Goats - Commandante
At least thats what I came up with in the last five minutes. May change with thought.
― esophagus, Saturday, 17 November 2007 06:39 (eighteen years ago)
so weird that i don't know most of the music on this thread. guess i have officially lost touch with 'indie' music.
right now: Burial- Archangel Jichael Mackson- Grass is Always Greener Len Faki- Odyssee I Tiger Stripes- Hooked Gowns- White Like Heaven
― the table is the table, Saturday, 17 November 2007 18:42 (eighteen years ago)
yeah, i feel really bad for anyone who didn't get into dance music this year
dinky - horizontal dop - dopamen feat noze siobhan donaghy - don't give it up (carl craig dub) shackleton - blood on my hands (villalobos mix) kollektiv turmstrasse - tristesse
i feel like an idiot high-lighting five tracks because its such a tiny random selection out of soooooo much great stuff from this year

― r|t|c, Saturday, 17 November 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)
Narrowing it down to five's going to be hard, but here goes:
Joe Henry - Our Song Stereo Total - Mehr Licht Arthur Verocai - Abertura Prefuse 73 - I Knew You Were Gonna Go Kal - Komedija
Seriously this was a difficult endeavor and all the albums these songs are featured on a are so remarkably good.
Honorable Mentions (Yea I know, it's cheating...)
Tujiko Noriko - Gift Gino Sitson - Bamisphere Richard Galliano - Gnossienne #3 Dr. Dog - Keep a Friend Esbjorn Svensson Trio (E.S.T.) - Goldwrap
There's a ton more that I didn't get to mention. 2007 was very memorable year for music, at least from my vantage point.
Cheers, you krazee ILMers

I just realised this.
1) Cardiacs - Ditzy Scene 2) Oceansize - Savant 3) Caribou - Niobe 4) Ulrich Schnauss - Medusa 5) WFANFC - Nancy Adam Susan
Bonus track - The Fiery Furnaces - Right By Conquest
Testify.
― Just got offed, Sunday, 9 December 2007 18:34 (eighteen years ago)
Right by Conquest is great. The chord progression in the chorus is so perfect that the only way I can describe it is 'correct': 'yes, that is the correct chord progression'.
― sleepingbag, Monday, 10 December 2007 03:26 (eighteen years ago)
styles p & az - the hardest
^^^^^^^
― max, Monday, 10 December 2007 03:27 (eighteen years ago)
i hadn't heard any of the songs on louis' list. the caribou one is nice. i didn't know you were into such "epic" rock, louis. the clip of that oceansize song sounds like snow patrol (not nec a bad thing).
― J0rdan S., Monday, 10 December 2007 03:38 (eighteen years ago)
Lou1s = ph34r teh prog
― The Reverend, Monday, 10 December 2007 03:41 (eighteen years ago)
i have no idea wtf that says. "fear the prog"? that cardiacs song is pretty proggy. it was okay. i turned it off when the singer came in.
― J0rdan S., Monday, 10 December 2007 03:42 (eighteen years ago)
Right By Conquest is the best "let's make out, NOW" song I've heard in a long, long, long time. There's something unutterably lusty, funky even, about those elastic keyboard noises at the start, something both playful AND triumphant about the melody (it brings both epic battle-anthem and love-ballad to mind), and that chorus marries said epic chord-progression to some actually brilliant coming-of-age sex lyrics. The right levels of pouty defiance, blooming eroticism, and fearful imagery are struck. The live-sounding rock drums, pounding like lovers, are the icing on the cake.
Jordan, I'm an absolute fiend when it comes to long-form pieces! That Oceansize song may sound superficially like Snow Patrol in that both are slow, elegiac, guitar-driven indie, but believe me, hear the whole thing and there's no comparison at all. Oceansize are after something far subtler, far grander, and far more original. Like I said in the other thread, it's practically a symphonic movement, structurally unpredictable, and ever-shifting. Also, many peoples' initial Cardiacs reaction is one of repulsion. It takes time. Go back to 'em at some point. You'll surprise yourself. That song merely happens to bone more or less everything else I've heard this year, in a fairly comprehensive fashion. They do things with melody, harmony, rhythm and structure that nobody can understand on first listen.
― Just got offed, Monday, 10 December 2007 03:46 (eighteen years ago)
Hahaha, compare and contrast this list, made in May:
65DaysOfStatic 'White Peak/Dark Peak' The Electric Soft Parade 'Woken By A Kiss' Eluvium 'Indoor Swimming at the Space Station' The Wildhearts 'Bi-Polar Baby' Battles 'Atlas' (well, duh)
Hmm. Not a single survivor! Six By Seven 'Radio Silence' was in there for a while as well, but I now think 'Diplomatique' is the best track on that album. Another late runner that failed to make the cut is Patrick Wolf, 'Overture'.
― Just got offed, Monday, 10 December 2007 03:58 (eighteen years ago)
ok i wantto make a list right now~
dalek - stagnant waters boredoms - livwe!! battles - rainbows fiery furnaces - wicker whatnots kevin ayers - friends and strangers
really this whole list should be battles tracks I am also hugely anticipating the new cardiacs album but i don't know if anything from the single really fucks me in the ear right now the way their music usually does. I need a full-length to play over and over again before i get to that stage :( hurry up guys :(
