Romeo! That's great. But I looked on that big list you posted on the "R&B - Disco" thread and you included NO Bohannon on that!

This has been my jam lately... It sounds amazingly modern considering it's from 1979; all the instruments are "real", but they're treated almost like samples, just fading in and out of the mix.
― Tuomas, Monday, 16 January 2012 21:13 (fourteen years ago)
People are always talking about Italo, but lately I've been thinking the best synth disco actually came from Canada: Bombers, Kebekelektrik, Kat Mandu, Gino Soccio, Lime, Immortals, etc. I dunno what the Canadian disco scene was like, but it certainly produced a whole lot of awesomely futuristic and funky tunes.
― Tuomas, Monday, 16 January 2012 21:17 (fourteen years ago)
Kebbekelektrik and Bombers are Soccio related, no? I love Bombers "don't stop the music", especially the part where that oceanic guitar solo kicks in. Bombers "Bolero" is disappointing; in theory it should be the coolest thing ever.
― river, Monday, 16 January 2012 22:07 (fourteen years ago)
best synth disco comes from america, imo, if we're using a big enough net
― river, Monday, 16 January 2012 22:08 (fourteen years ago)
Bombers - 2 EP is all pretty good. There's this great disco compilation I found off Usenet years ago that features about 50 nice songs in that style, wish I could find it somewhere. Gino Soccio, etc. etc.
Always liked this song. Got it off Azuli Presents - Frankie Knuckles, Choice Collection of Classics. It's like a mix of disco, R&B, with a shout-out to the early hip-hop scene.

― Spectrum, Monday, 16 January 2012 22:22 (fourteen years ago)
oh yes, that's a classic. leroy burgess, iirc
― river, Monday, 16 January 2012 22:27 (fourteen years ago)
I think Soccio might've been involved with both projects, but AFAIK the main force behind them was Pat Deserio. And "Bolero" is by Kebekeletrik, not Bombers. I guess it can be disappointing if you expect it to be a full-on disco version of the Ravel tune; but IMO it's pretty great for what it actually is, a piece of high-minded minimalist synth pop... If you've only heard the Tom Moulton remix that came out on Salsoul, the original 1977 version of "Bolero" is worth checking out, the minimalism is more evident there.
― Tuomas, Monday, 16 January 2012 22:38 (fourteen years ago)
Love Leroy Burgess's vocals on that Convertion track, so full of life.
― Spectrum, Monday, 16 January 2012 22:44 (fourteen years ago)
xp ah right on my bad. it's ok i guess, I was really jonesing for a more epic oceanic version.. like a cross between "don't stop the music" and jeff beck group's "bolero"
― river, Monday, 16 January 2012 22:44 (fourteen years ago)
