Ends 5/21.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 17 May 2007 05:35 (nineteen years ago)

'time after time'!

lex pretend, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

i only know 4 of these.

blueski, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

oh i guess i know that Goonies one.

blueski, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

Does this include Blue Angel singles?

I went with the obvious one (but not its Arthur Baker remix, which is good but not quite as good.)

xhuxk, Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

"Money Changes Everything" for me, but all the others from that album are almost as good.

sw00ds, Thursday, 17 May 2007 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

"She's So Unusual" is the only album of hers that matter, but "True Colors" is a better single than any of the "She's So Unusual" singles. So beautiful.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

I find it so odd that "Change of Heart" got as high as #3.

She's So Unusual is virtually a singles comp. "She Bop," but barely.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

"The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough" needs love too.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

I find it so odd that "Change of Heart" got as high as #3.

Here name was rather huge at the time.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

"Girls Just Want to Have Fun" just barely over "She Bop," primarily because the former had one of the funnest '80s videos ever.

JN$OT, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

"Time After Time", easy.

Joe, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:36 (nineteen years ago)

I voted for the Goonies song, which is genuinely great, even if part of my fondness for it is just brainwashing from the 8-bit version constantly repeating on the Nintendo game.

nabisco, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

Every time I hear the original (most recently last week!), I can't help filling in the little melodic fills from the game programming / Advantage cover of game programming.

nabisco, Thursday, 17 May 2007 19:40 (nineteen years ago)

Keep in mind, She Bop is about masturbation, which makes it way awesome and that much funnier.

Andi Mags, Friday, 18 May 2007 02:31 (nineteen years ago)

i drove all night just edges money changes everything - and both hold up terrifically well

rogermexico., Friday, 18 May 2007 02:46 (nineteen years ago)

^^^

Those are actually my two favorites as well, but I went with Money.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 18 May 2007 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

"Goonies" by a mile. WAI YAI YAI YEAHHH!

Doctor Casino, Friday, 18 May 2007 05:34 (nineteen years ago)

"Girls Just Want to Have Fun" just barely over "She Bop," primarily because the former had one of the funnest '80s videos ever.

"She Bop" just barely over "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" primarily because the former had one of the funnest '80s videos ever! And the "Time After Time" video was a little gem itself.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 18 May 2007 05:54 (nineteen years ago)

True enough.

JN$OT, Friday, 18 May 2007 07:15 (nineteen years ago)

"I wanna be the one to walk in the sun."

Tim Ellison, Friday, 18 May 2007 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

i drove all night otm, but I really dig the majority of these.

horseshoe, Friday, 18 May 2007 20:00 (nineteen years ago)

I just found out that "Money Changes Everything" was a cover. I had no idea. I dressed up as Cyndi Lauper for Halloween 3 years in a row in elementary school.

La Lechera, Friday, 18 May 2007 20:03 (nineteen years ago)

Several 80s Lauper songs are covers

I Drove All Night (Roy Orbison) -- although, Lauper's was released first.
Money Changes Everything (The Brains)
When You Were Mine (Prince)
All Through the Night (Jules Shear)
What's Going On (Marvin Gaye)

Probably more too, but I just pulled those off the top of my head.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 18 May 2007 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

I'm surprised there's no "True Colors" love.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 19 May 2007 01:12 (nineteen years ago)

my friend HATES "time after time" and i'm all like "ARE YOU AN ALIEn?"

Gukbe, Saturday, 19 May 2007 02:09 (nineteen years ago)

I voted for "Hole in My Heart (All the Way to China)" because I dream of the day I'll find it in a karaoke catalogue. And because I really enjoyed Vibes the one time I caught it on TV.

"You gotta fill it up with love before I fall insiiiiiide-ah."

lindseykai, Saturday, 19 May 2007 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

Several 80s Lauper songs are covers

And she didn't write "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", "Time After Time" nor "True Colors" either.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 20 May 2007 00:05 (nineteen years ago)

She co-wrote "Time After Time," Geir.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 20 May 2007 01:04 (nineteen years ago)

I've always thought there was a difference between having songs written for you and performing songs (or covering songs) that have already been recorded/performed before.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 20 May 2007 01:21 (nineteen years ago)

I'd agree with that.

Bimble, Sunday, 20 May 2007 01:29 (nineteen years ago)

I've always thought there was a difference between having songs written for you and performing songs (or covering songs) that have already been recorded/performed before.

There is one, sort of, but the more different acts the songwriter has written songs for, the smaller does the difference get.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 20 May 2007 02:06 (nineteen years ago)

No real surprises here. She's So Unusual dominated the proceedings, but happy to see a lot of love for "I Drove All Night" indeed.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 May 2007 03:05 (nineteen years ago)

"True Colors" (the song, not the album) would have deserved more votes.
