The production ruins the whole album.

There was a quite recent live acoustic hits effort available on emusic for a while there. The songs Vearnecombe did on that from the wonderful life album sounded pretty good. (Well as far as I could tell from the 30sec samples)

The song itself was great. But the production was way too 1986. An extremely bad era for production with lots of ugly FM synths and bad PCM samples.
