baaderonixx, Friday, 25 May 2007 08:52 (nineteen years ago)

Well I didn't vote for it.

aldo, Friday, 25 May 2007 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

Boy's Don't Cry pour moi.

Dr.C, Friday, 25 May 2007 09:11 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not really sure what I'm gonna vote for here. I might go with 'Cut Here'

baaderonixx, Friday, 25 May 2007 09:13 (nineteen years ago)

I know only one Cure single, and that's "Fridays I'm in Love", so I'm gonna vote for that.

Tuomas, Friday, 25 May 2007 09:16 (nineteen years ago)

Oh wait, I've heard "Boys Don't Cry" too, but that isn't as good.

Tuomas, Friday, 25 May 2007 09:17 (nineteen years ago)

You've never heard "Just Like Heaven"?

baaderonixx, Friday, 25 May 2007 09:18 (nineteen years ago)

Hi, we like "Love Cats", "Inbetween days" and "Close to me" (both versions) but have decided to vote "A Forest" and hope you do too.

Mark G, Friday, 25 May 2007 09:18 (nineteen years ago)

"Killing An Arab" was a double A-side with "10:15 Saturday Night". You can't have t'one without t'other.

mike t-diva, Friday, 25 May 2007 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

No it wasn't.

flowersdie, Friday, 25 May 2007 09:45 (nineteen years ago)

Just checked. No.

Mark G, Friday, 25 May 2007 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

The Walk, just beats out Primary.

SeekAltRoute, Friday, 25 May 2007 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

xpost: Well, harumph, it was a double A-side in my alternate parallel universe...

mike t-diva, Friday, 25 May 2007 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

Charlotte Sometimes here. Don't know why, I just like it more than the other contenders, ok?

StanM, Friday, 25 May 2007 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

OK.

baaderonixx, Friday, 25 May 2007 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

Phew. thanks :-)

StanM, Friday, 25 May 2007 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

I'd take the Catch 12" with those gorgeous, gorgeous b sides. "Breathe" is the kind of thing global communications ended up doing 7 years later.

flowersdie, Friday, 25 May 2007 10:48 (nineteen years ago)

xpost: Well, harumph, it was a double A-side in my alternate parallel universe...

I thought the Small Wonder release was a double A.

onimo, Friday, 25 May 2007 10:55 (nineteen years ago)

So did I.

I'm with StanM on this poll anyway.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 25 May 2007 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

"Let's Go To Bed"!

Wonderfull twee pop and great 80s synthpop all in one song. Perfect!

Geir Hongro, Friday, 25 May 2007 11:02 (nineteen years ago)

Well, the Small Wonder release is the one I own. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get hold of it for the next week. I'm almost tempted to nip home and check. Almost.

Anyhow, "Killing An Arab/10:15 Saturday Night" narrowly beats "Lullaby", followed by (in descending order) "In Between Days", "The Love Cats", "Let's Go To Bed", "Boys Don't Cry", "Close To Me", "Jumping Someone Else's Train" and "Friday I'm In Love".

mike t-diva, Friday, 25 May 2007 11:07 (nineteen years ago)

Although all my favourite Cure albums are up to Pornography, I think I'll vote for a later single. In Between Days is catching my eye but it's a tough call.

onimo, Friday, 25 May 2007 11:27 (nineteen years ago)

Mark G, Friday, 25 May 2007 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

However, the front cover only says "Killing an Arab"

Mark G, Friday, 25 May 2007 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

I voted "Just Like Heaven" and I'm not ashamed.

Joe, Friday, 25 May 2007 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

oh shit you guys

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 25 May 2007 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

I'm thinking of voting for "Wrong Number" for the same reasons Dan voted for The Cure

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 25 May 2007 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.naptownamplifier.com/killing1.jpg

Bah.

mike t-diva, Friday, 25 May 2007 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

I'm thinking of voting for "Wrong Number" for the same reasons Dan voted for The Cure

Vote for "Cut Here", then.

baaderonixx, Friday, 25 May 2007 13:27 (nineteen years ago)

Told yer. xpost.

Mark G, Friday, 25 May 2007 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

"Maybe Someday" doesn't count, then?

(PS: I wouldn't have voted for it.)

HI DERE, Friday, 25 May 2007 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

C'mon, people!

baaderonixx, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 06:23 (nineteen years ago)

I still don't know what to vote for!

(Are we gonna do a b-side poll after this?)

HI DERE, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

Well since I have the impression that only like 10 people voted here, it might just be you and me in a b-side poll..

baaderonixx, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

"In Between Days" is an easy, if not terribly original, choice - no matter how many times i hear it, it's just a great, great song. I didn't know that "Catch" was a single which is a track i've always liked; understated 'n all. But then, what about the brillianly imagined punk-ness in "Killing an Arab" from friggin' 1978! I dunno.

christoff, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

This shouldn't be too hard, considering that I've hardly ever liked The Cure, apart from half of Standing On The Beach and maybe 1/3 of Kiss Me x 3, both of which I sold at the dawn of the '90s. (Seventeen Seconds and Pornography didn't even make it that long.)

But dissing practically heresy around these parts, and anyway I come to praise the Cure, not bury them and all that. I certainly prefer the playful Cure to the gloomy Cure, and so I choose "Caterpillar". But there's a chance I'd change my vote if I knew which of their singles had the weird & wonderful "Man Inside My Mouth" for the B-side.

Oh, and I remember "Caterpillar" as being released around the same time as Rebbie Jackson's "Centipede", which I thought was kinda cool.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

that's worth a Taking Sides!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

Man/mouth was on the b-side of "Close to me", well the "1/2 an octopus" 10" single.

Mark G, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

"Close To Me"/"A Man Inside My Mouth" (other versions include "Stop Dead" and "New Day")

(xpost bah)

HI DERE, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

A B-sides poll would be easier because I'd go straight for "Lament" anyday

Curt1s Stephens, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

i went for "Mint Car", with "The Lovecats" the runner-up.

Jeb, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 16:21 (nineteen years ago)

"Never Enough" is missing; its b-side, "Harold and Joe," is among my favorite Cure tracks — maybe because it sounds so uncharacteristically laid back and peaceful, yet accompanied by that Cure glow.

I went for "Close to Me" partly for the aforementioned b-sides. The Mixed Up version (also released as a single) has gotten more play on my stereo over the years than any of their other work, a getting-up-in-the-morning, things-might-not-be-so-bad sort of feeling.

eatandoph, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

Went with "Just Like Heaven."

Curt1s Stephens, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

"Harold and Joe" is great! Someone needs to start a B-sides poll...

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

The only songs on here I don't like are "Mint Car" and "Strange Attraction". I am having a very difficult time deciding between "Primary", "Charlotte Sometimes", "The Hanging Garden", "Let's Go To Bed", "The Lovecats", "Close To Me", "Hot Hot Hot!!!", "Lullaby", "High" and "The 13th".

HI DERE, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 19:47 (nineteen years ago)

Hah, I finally voted for JLH like a big ol' baby

baaderonixx, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

A vote for their New Pop single here: "Let's Go To Bed" soooo rules even though "Friday I'm In Love" comes very close.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 31 May 2007 01:47 (nineteen years ago)

Surprisingly easy... "Jumping Someone Else s Train" kthxbye

Erroneous Botch, Thursday, 31 May 2007 05:57 (nineteen years ago)

"Fascination Street" is one of my favorite songs ever, so I had to give it the nod.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 May 2007 06:11 (nineteen years ago)

Well done.

Mark G, Thursday, 31 May 2007 09:27 (nineteen years ago)

Inbetween Days.

I want to go back and vote for Boys Don't Cry.

hobart paving, Thursday, 31 May 2007 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

drum roll, keith!

Mark G, Thursday, 31 May 2007 22:56 (nineteen years ago)

Whoa, Lullaby got nowt!

Mark G, Thursday, 31 May 2007 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

^^ These are the ones that make me saddest.

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 31 May 2007 23:09 (nineteen years ago)

What thehell I didnt even SEE this poll! I want a do over! Caterpillar with no votes, Lovesong with no votes, you people are terrible, tch.

Trayce, Friday, 1 June 2007 01:10 (nineteen years ago)

CLOSE TO ME? Seriously? Color me surprised.

Ditto. Actually, there are at least 5 in that list that would rank higher for me.

Joe, Friday, 1 June 2007 03:20 (nineteen years ago)

! This is the first time my vote has actually DECIDED A POLL (ok, was among the 10 that decided etc etc). Shame it's for a band I don't much care about. Oh, democracypaws.

Groke, Friday, 1 June 2007 05:49 (nineteen years ago)

Pretty weird results indeed. Surprised that Let's Go to Bed placed so high and that Lullaby and Lovesong didn't get any votes.

baaderonixx, Friday, 1 June 2007 07:58 (nineteen years ago)

Good to see "Let's Go To Bed" up there. They never got better.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 1 June 2007 09:40 (nineteen years ago)

FECK. how did i miss this? Can't believe 'Lullaby' got no votes at all - totally would've got mine.

CharlieNo4, Friday, 1 June 2007 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

I am now doubly happy that I made yet another reactionary vote in a Cure poll ("The Hanging Garden")!

HI DERE, Friday, 1 June 2007 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

I like the high number of votes for the "Head On The Door" singles. Even though the best tracks on that album were non singles such as "A Night Like This", "Kyoto Song" and "The Blood".

Geir Hongro, Friday, 1 June 2007 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

I thought A Night Like This was a single. I've definitely seen a video for it.

nate woolls, Friday, 1 June 2007 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

yes, there was a video for it and it was included on Standing on a Beach, but it wasn't single (same as Play for Today and Other Voices).

baaderonixx, Friday, 1 June 2007 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

All of them great songs that should definitely have been singles. "Other Voices" may be the best song on "Faith".

Geir Hongro, Friday, 1 June 2007 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

There was also a video for "10:15 Saturday Night" on there IIRC.

HI DERE, Friday, 1 June 2007 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

I voted for "Close To Me." I had a feeling it might sneak up for a win.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 1 June 2007 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

Two votes for "The 13th"!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 1 June 2007 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, that's awesome.

HI DERE, Friday, 1 June 2007 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

Chrissakes! that's the SECOND time my lone vote hasn't counted in a poll! Which can mean only one of two things:

a)Jeb Bush has infiltrated the ILM polling stations for some nefarious purpose; or

b)I've been stupidly forgetting to click the "VOTE" button before submitting responses.

Almost certainly the latter. I demand a recount for all 73 polls I've voted in since April.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 1 June 2007 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

I kinda wish I'd gone with the gut and picked "The Caterpillar" or "The Lovecats," both of which strike me as about the most fun + interesting period of the Cure having a concept of "singles" and whatnot -- just some lingering strain of rockism in me is like "eh, but that's pastiche, go with 'Let's Go to Bed.'"

nabisco, Friday, 1 June 2007 18:21 (nineteen years ago)

"The Caterpillar" doesn't seem like pastiche. "Lovecats," maybe.

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 1 June 2007 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

i voted "Primary" because it sounded so good on KROQ whenever they used to play it. only three votes though, a b-sides poll could be interesting if people vote.

Bee OK, Saturday, 2 June 2007 04:56 (nineteen years ago)

'Let's Go to Bed' is way more pastiche than 'Caterpillar', IMO.

baaderonixx, Saturday, 2 June 2007 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

I voted for "The 13th"!

Marco Damiani, Saturday, 2 June 2007 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

eight months pass...

Can't believe no-one voted for the Caterpillar. Been playing that song to death for the past week.
