Awesomely pretentious lyrics. Have loved this album since I was a oyung teen.

Who made those dub versions of absolute and wood beez? Were they just done by scritti?

The ones on the CD? Absolute is remixed bun Gary Langan, I believe, if the Discogs singles are to be trusted. He did the original mix as well. Discogs isn't clear who did Wood Beez.

Well, it made me more open to Deconstruction about 25 years ago.

Should this record have come with a lyric sheet, or would that have been overdoing the cerebral element?

this is very from-the-hip (appropriate considering the album) but my feeling from this record is less that it's a mission statement for deconstruction or leftism and more "an exploration of the impossibility and mystery of love influenced by poet/philosopher jacques derrida and probably other obscure semi-mystical deep-language weirdos". i.e. if you had been electrified by derrida you would have probably been blown away by these lyrics but if you were coming to this from idk a lot of other post-punk-adjacent literary influences more rooted in bleak modernism it might have seemed pretty tutti frutti.

I can't remember what I voted for but this is otm.

My copy comes with a lyric sheet.

I don't need it because this album is more an exploration of how to make songs sound fabulous with Linn drums and sample keyboards so long as Arif Mardin and David Gamson produce.

usually just let that sort of take alone but it's too wrong in this case. the lyrics and gg's vocals are a crucial part of the appeal of this record.

i only know snippets of the lyrics to this and i've never looked up what i'm missing but still, those snippets, i couldn't imagine these songs without their nerdy, heady, fey take on the appeal of pop music.

During normal times when I karaoked the number of lines surprised me.

not trying to be rude.. just, i love these lyrics and think they are very, very special lol

they're great, and I know they're great because they're literate and written to the rhythms.

the final verse of "A Little Knowledge" got me through a breakup once
