Best Album on SILTBREEZE RECORDS Poll

We've had a few normal, semi-rolling threads about Siltbreeze. I know myself and at least several other regular ILM posters have strong feelings on the subject of the label--for me, the discovery of the Dead C (and as a result, my discover of Siltbreeze) was very formative in terms of my tastes & outlook as to what was positive in music, what WAS music (as Harry Pussy said) and what could be accomplished indepependently.

That said, here's the list taken from the Siltbreeze website. Comps and singles omitted.

Though the list of singles is equally fascinating, IMO.

ian, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

oops, i accidentally left the tar'd n further'd comp in there. it's a good comp. but not an album per se.

ian, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

weird, i posted to this thread and it disappeared.

it's okay if t&f is in there, great singles dude!

hstencil, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

"helen said this"

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

(though i'd call that a single, not an LP)

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

I wondered how long until this came. This is a toughy...

gnarly sceptre, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

If it was singles/eps, I'd have 'In the Pineys'.

gnarly sceptre, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 17:44 (nineteen years ago)

There's so much on this list I've not heard, sadly.
I just voted for my most recent favorite out of all these (Pink Reason).

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

Trapdoor Fuckin' Exit CD

dan selzer, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

market square

none of the new releases have grabbed me, though I still haven't heard the ex-cocaine or pink reason.

Edward III, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

i'm not gonna vote cos i know too little music on that list, but i ove that Times New Viking album, and Get Out Of My Stations is one of my favourite GBV relelases

stevie, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

"Morse" every day of the week.

sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

market square.

resolved, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 20:18 (nineteen years ago)

sandoz lab technicians, i listen to that one most. please don't ask me to prove its worthiness, "memorable or meaningful"-ness because that's fuckin weak.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Thursday, 31 May 2007 04:10 (nineteen years ago)

i voted for the renderers... because it's awesome!!

strgn, Thursday, 31 May 2007 04:15 (nineteen years ago)

Shoot, it was a close one twixt Trapdoor and Dig Yourself...score one for NZ

Morley Timmons, Thursday, 31 May 2007 06:29 (nineteen years ago)

I'm only familiar with Dead C and Charalambides (yeah, I know, I suck). I have Times New Viking on the computer but haven't listened to it yet. Gonna have to go with Trapdoor Fucking Exit.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 31 May 2007 08:40 (nineteen years ago)

Tower Recordings: Furniture Music for Evening Shuttles

inhibitionist, Thursday, 31 May 2007 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

i think trapdoor fucking exit cd and morse are the only ones i still have

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 31 May 2007 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

bump!

doesn't Tim still have the Shadow Ring CD? You referenced it uhhh,,, less than a year ago?

ian, Friday, 1 June 2007 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

tim_ellison.xls

Edward III, Friday, 1 June 2007 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

i keep tabs on shadow ring fans only.

ian, Friday, 1 June 2007 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

Swill Radio Shadow Ring albs are best. Lighthouse has the song about the boys of the RAF liking their grub.

gnarly sceptre, Friday, 1 June 2007 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

lindus & lighthouse = the masterpieces.

ian, Friday, 1 June 2007 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i think i just still have lighthouse.

Tim Ellison, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

As with the rest of these polls though, I just can't choose! Still lots I haven't managed to hear. And aside from the obvious Dead C/Charalambides stuff, there's a lot of great lesser albums here that might go unmentioned. The Pin Group retrospective is awesome, Strapping Fieldhands are prize goofs, and I enjoyed that Hall of Fame album (found a cheap copy last week) as much as any of the Tower Recordings albums I've heard, although I've never found a copy of Furniture Music, which seems to be the popular favourite...

gnarly sceptre, Friday, 1 June 2007 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

bump for last call

that new pink reason album is five kinds of alright, I'm digging it

Edward III, Monday, 4 June 2007 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

i voted for strapping fieldhands cuz they are my pals and i love them. but i like lots of stuff up there. mike rep album is awesome. morse is great. market square is great. harry pussy also great. temple of bon matin great. hell, it's all good. (though UN used to bore me to tears live. don't tell anyone, okay? i'd probably like them more now. i have a higher tolerance for such stuff.)

oh and i love all the new stuff too! especially der tpk.

scott seward, Monday, 4 June 2007 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

I fear there will not be a decisive winner in this poll.
But I guess that's good. Because it's all good. It really is. Have you heard the Ex-Cocaine LP yet Scott? I love it alllll.,

ian, Monday, 4 June 2007 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

yah, i got the ex-cocaine last week. i dig it.

scott seward, Monday, 4 June 2007 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

morse is better than anything else in their catalog

J0hn D., Monday, 4 June 2007 17:38 (nineteen years ago)

morse is good, but you're bonkers.

ian, Monday, 4 June 2007 21:08 (nineteen years ago)

also, does this seem like it might be a typo to anyone else:
SB-30...Dead C: The Operation of the Sunne LP (1994, ed. of 12,000) ?

Crazy.

ian, Monday, 4 June 2007 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

it was that deal with matador that sunk them. 11,500 dead c records in tom's basement. just kidding!

scott seward, Monday, 4 June 2007 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

mac used to give me records for free. i ran a coffee shop underneath siltbreeze hq. i miss mac. and ellen. and tom even. even though he refused to put out bunnybrains records.

scott seward, Monday, 4 June 2007 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Monday, 4 June 2007 23:01 (nineteen years ago)

aw, no votes for union. but i guess it's good that it didn't split the Charalambides vote the way Trapdoor/Harsh 70s split the Dead C vote.

ian, Monday, 4 June 2007 23:25 (nineteen years ago)

i don't even know anyone who's ever seen a copy of union. i've got a cdr. i think market square's way better.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 05:25 (nineteen years ago)

i've got a copy of union, which i got for FREE from some ILM dude. also how i got a free copy of the our bed is green tape! i think market square's better too, but the opener on union (long version of "florian") is mindblowingly great.

ian, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

time for a reissue, dammit.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

i think i read something abt missing masters for both union & market square (but don't quote me on that of course); i haven't heard plans of kranky doing them, either :\
