"I Me Mine", particularly the waltz version.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

"Don't Let Me Down" because not even horror of horrors Kelly Stereophonics can ruin it.

danzig, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 23:53 (nineteen years ago)

I voted for "I Got a Feeling", strangely enough.

Joe, Thursday, 31 May 2007 00:18 (nineteen years ago)

"Across The Universe" is a great song, on an otherwise patchy album (which would have been way better with "All Things Must Pass" on it though)

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 31 May 2007 00:23 (nineteen years ago)

I voted for "I Got A Feeling," which is the best and most moving end-days Lennon-McCartney collaboration.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 31 May 2007 00:30 (nineteen years ago)

get back, the best rock song the beatles ever wrote

lfam, Thursday, 31 May 2007 00:31 (nineteen years ago)

MAYBE

lfam, Thursday, 31 May 2007 00:31 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmm...I'd go with Back in the USSR on that one lfam, but Get Back is definitely the best rock song on the album.

For the purposes of this poll though, I went with "I've Got a Feeling" which duked it out for a minute or two with "Dig a Pony."

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 31 May 2007 00:38 (nineteen years ago)

The Beatles didn't write any good rock songs after "And Your Bird Can Sing" and "Taxman".

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 31 May 2007 01:39 (nineteen years ago)

"Let It Be"

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 31 May 2007 02:21 (nineteen years ago)

I think I have finally exceeded my quotient of drunken pullings out of "Don't Let Me Down", so I voted for "I've Got A Feeling". Surprised that I'm not alone, really.

Bimble, Thursday, 31 May 2007 02:25 (nineteen years ago)

there is no such thing as too many drunk pullings out of don't let me down.

ghost rider, Thursday, 31 May 2007 02:30 (nineteen years ago)

hmm, back in the ussr is also amazing, who can choose?

lfam, Thursday, 31 May 2007 02:32 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I know it's tough. But then you have to ask yourself, "which of these songs has a freakin' jet plane on it?"

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 31 May 2007 02:44 (nineteen years ago)

bo: select!

Mark G, Thursday, 31 May 2007 08:23 (nineteen years ago)

The Beatles didn't write any good rock songs after "And Your Bird Can Sing" and "Taxman".

'Birthday' is a fantastic rocker and 'Back in the USSR' is no slouch too.

Billy Dods, Thursday, 31 May 2007 08:53 (nineteen years ago)

Relax! It's Geir.

Mark G, Thursday, 31 May 2007 08:56 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I know but you can't let it slide.

Billy Dods, Thursday, 31 May 2007 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

Sure you can! Deep breaths...

Mark G, Thursday, 31 May 2007 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

I love "Dig A Pony". John's vocal is too wordy on the verses and sounds out of it / out of tune / out of ideas, but the chorus slows things way down, Paul joins in on harmonies and sounds like he's having a great time. It's got this warped doo-wop thing going on, with the lead guitar kinda shooting all over the place, but then there's this fuzzed out warble in the background (George?) that's filling in what the bass might have; here the bass is mostly just following the drums, probably the least interesting feature of the song.

Euler, Thursday, 31 May 2007 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

'Birthday' is a fantastic rocker and 'Back in the USSR' is no slouch too.

Both are way too 50s-like harmonically.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 31 May 2007 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I know but you can't let it slide.

But you CAN let it be.

humansuit, Thursday, 31 May 2007 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

it's like the terrible showing of "hey jude" in the singles poll - zero votes. understandable - i didn't vote for it either - but "let it be" and "the long and winding road" are the only whoppers on this album.

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 31 May 2007 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

regardless of people's queasiness about their nature. there's still something there that merits acknowledging that they're the only whoppers on the album.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 31 May 2007 20:34 (nineteen years ago)

i trust you know what i'm saying.

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 31 May 2007 20:35 (nineteen years ago)

i mean, it's far and away the most mediocre beatles album apart from those songs and without them it would be seen as even more mediocre regardless of whether people feel they like those two songs or not!

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 31 May 2007 20:37 (nineteen years ago)

i think it's a matter of the content not really being there in the lyrics, but the INTENDED content is easily perceived and very palpable in those two songs.

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 31 May 2007 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

don't let me down destroys

Mr. Que, Thursday, 31 May 2007 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

tim that's piffle. 'Two Of Us' is my favorite not counting the unadorned anthology 'Long and Winding'. i'm a true bro so it's more poignant when I read it as a backdrop to the Paul and John disintegration(no yoko)

tremendoid, Thursday, 31 May 2007 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

man I hadn't really thought about this album much lately but looking at the tracklisting I'm struck by how weak it is overall. Toss-up between Across the Universe and All Things Must Pass.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 31 May 2007 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

All I know is that it was a bad idea to go on a GIS for "whoppers" while I was at work.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 31 May 2007 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

the 15 minute long version of dig it. the 8 minute version is great too. phil spector should go to jail for cutting it to less than a minute long.

funny farm, Thursday, 31 May 2007 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

"between song banter" should be a poll option

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 31 May 2007 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

I voted 'Universe', I would have voted 'Commonwealth Song', and once again mention the film clip outtake from the LIB sessions where Ringo / Paul / John / Yoko play a proto version of Yoko's 'Why?' for about three minutes

on a slight side-topic, if anyone has an mp3 of the 8-10 minute version of 'Revolution No. 1' with the Yoko coda, please drop me a line

Milton Parker, Thursday, 31 May 2007 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

Where is Laibach band?

Soukesian, Thursday, 31 May 2007 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

...

Mark G, Thursday, 31 May 2007 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

There should be a Laibach poll equivalent to this thread.

Joe, Friday, 1 June 2007 03:22 (nineteen years ago)

I'd definitely say "Across The Universe" is up there with "Let It Be" and "The Long And Winding Road". It was hardly a new song in 1970 though.
