Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Fever to Tell (Interscope) 2003

Really?

Tape Store, Sunday, 21 October 2007 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

Very for me, closely over More Songs About Buildings and Food, Second Edition, I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One, and Tonight's the Night. I like a few others a lot too, particularly S-K, Lennon, '94 Neil, Waits, and Radiohead. But most of these are pretty lousy.

Matos W.K., Sunday, 21 October 2007 19:30 (eighteen years ago)

by "most" I mean "most of the '80s ones" obv

Matos W.K., Sunday, 21 October 2007 19:32 (eighteen years ago)

Are The Donnas going to show up in the next poll?

Tape Store, Sunday, 21 October 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

I have to vote Talking Heads even though I hate them. Still a better album than Aja, Tonight's the Night or Metal Box, all quite overrated.

wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 21 October 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

Why do old white men like John Hiatt? Oh.

Tape Store, Sunday, 21 October 2007 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

tonight's the night
i'm guessing aja in a landslide tho
can someone explain the appeal of michelle shocked, 20 years later i still don't get it

gershy, Sunday, 21 October 2007 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

tonight's the night

I love Tonight's the Night, but it's not the sort of thing I often want to hear anymore (life's been good, etc.). Whereas I'm always putting on the first PM Dawn record. So on that basis I go with PM Dawn.

Euler, Sunday, 21 October 2007 20:20 (eighteen years ago)

Very, but I'll hate myself for ignoring More Songs and PiL. Of the 1981-89 batch, The Blue Mask is by far my favorite.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 21 October 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)

I'm curious if each one of these is gonna feel more filled with overrated bloat or if there will be some fluke position that attracts a lot of gold. I can't even do a top 8. Voting for Fever To Tell, love Tonight's The Night, More Songs, Second Edition, I can Hear The Heart Beating As One and Colossal Head. Private Dancer and The Blue Mask are sitting in my "to listen to" vinyl pile from PRE and elsewhere. I bet I'd really dig that McGarrigle album, maybe Raising Hell. Should revisit Very, haven't heard it since high school. The rest is basically stuff I either kept the best tracks from or have little desire to check out.

da croupier, Sunday, 21 October 2007 20:37 (eighteen years ago)

I can't believe Mirror Ball actually hit the top 5. "I'm The Ocean" is great, but were people really that gaga about him and Pearl Jam getting together for a week?

da croupier, Sunday, 21 October 2007 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

it was the perfect way to smuggle PJ into the top ten.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 21 October 2007 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

Neil Young
Elvis Costello
Public Image Ltd.
Pet Shop Boys

LIKE:
Kate & Anna McGarrigle
Steely Dan
Talking Heads
Run-D.M.C.
P.M. Dawn
Neneh Cherry

INDIFFERENT TO:
John Lennon
Rolling Stones
Lou Reed
The Police
Tina Turner

DISLIKE OR DON'T KNOW:
all the rest

sw00ds, Sunday, 21 October 2007 21:38 (eighteen years ago)

the Neil love is for Tonight's the Night btw.

sw00ds, Sunday, 21 October 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

Voted for PiL; easy.

Second place, easy:
Neil Young: Tonight's the Night (Reprise) 1975

Other ones I care about:
Steely Dan: Aja (ABC) 1977
Talking Heads: More Songs About Buildings and Food (Sire) 1978
Elvis Costello: Armed Forces (Columbia) 1979
Run-D.M.C.: Raising Hell (Profile) 1986
Neneh Cherry: Raw Like Sushi (Virgin) 1989

I don't own The Blue Mask anymore, but I'm not sure why I got rid of it; I liked it when I used to have it. Others I expect I wouldn't hate if I owned copies: McGarrigles, Tina Turner, Police, Stones, Pet Shop Boys, John Lennon. Not that I expect I'll ever go out of my way to seek them out.

No use for the rest.

xhuxk, Sunday, 21 October 2007 21:50 (eighteen years ago)

I like most of these.

Eazy, Sunday, 21 October 2007 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

Armed Forces/I Can Hear the Heart/XO

G00blar, Sunday, 21 October 2007 21:58 (eighteen years ago)

The Blue Mask

then comes
Armed Forces, Tonight's The Night & I Can Hear The Heart. But they all bow down before the genius that is The Blue Mask.

kornrulez6969, Sunday, 21 October 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Lotsa made-it-on-their-rep-from-past-glories artists on this list, huh?

M.V., Monday, 22 October 2007 07:06 (eighteen years ago)

I am not xhuxk's sock puppet (honest!), but I do agree that Second Edition and Tonight's the Night are the best things on this list. Still, even though The Metal Box is probably one of my 20 favorite albums ever, I already voted for PiL in the 1980 poll. Therefore, I'll be voting for Neil here.

Also, y’all do realize that no one has done a favorite P&J no. 1 album poll yet, right?

JN$OT, Monday, 22 October 2007 08:53 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Would have been a terrific top five if not for Elliot Smith.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 23:02 (eighteen years ago)

Not even one vote for "Check Your Head"? It's not my favorite on the list, but it's still great.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 23:09 (eighteen years ago)

The Elliott Smith record is quite good, though.

jaymc, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 23:11 (eighteen years ago)

XO is his best album.

Dan S, Thursday, 25 October 2007 05:17 (eighteen years ago)

The Heads, P.M. Dawn, Lou Reed, Neil Young and Run-D.M.C. albums all deserved an extra vote or two. And who the heck voted for Sun City in this day and age?

JN$OT, Thursday, 25 October 2007 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

Er...the Neil Young album being Sleeps With Angels.
