Noel doesn't seem like the type to sign off messages with "cheers".

I'm surprised by all the bidding; the photos look as if they were taken by a cell phone camera in 1995, and the seller hasn't provided much proof that the record is a genuine.

musically, Sunday, 28 October 2007 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

I wouldn't touch this with a barge poll, not that I'd want one anyway, but one went for 20 grand last year and if I was bidding I'd be a bit disconcerted by his attitude in the replies to the questions.

Billy Dods, Sunday, 28 October 2007 22:21 (eighteen years ago)

How is it known that that's Noel Gallagher? Or am I missing something?

Ben Boyerrr, Sunday, 28 October 2007 23:35 (eighteen years ago)

So go on then Gunner2406, what's the deal with this? Are we talking ten quid or ten grand? Labels look like it's one of the poorer fakes in circulation, although they are becoming collectable in their own right. Does it pass any of the tests, and if you know anything about the record, you'll know what they are. Cheers, Mark E

And that guy from The Fall is bidding as well.

James Mitchell, Monday, 29 October 2007 00:13 (eighteen years ago)

as far as i know it is real.if you bid its up to you.but please bid with confidense.thanks

NO FUTURE! ANARCHY IN THE UK

(Harps chimes, fog rolls, 30 years later)

Yes, I'd like to bid 1,800 for that punk artifact, if it is indeed so!

I wouldn't like to be Liam Gallagher right now!

DJ Mencap, Monday, 29 October 2007 09:37 (eighteen years ago)

Why?

Mark G, Monday, 29 October 2007 09:42 (eighteen years ago)

Or anytime, I'd imagine.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 29 October 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

it's now at £3,000 and the winning bidder is a collector of World War 2 memorabilia. And rare punk records too. Hmm, who?

Mark G, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

Mr K?

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

it's now at £3,000 and the winning bidder is a collector of World War 2 memorabilia. And rare punk records too. Hmm, who?

Peter Hook? Ron Asheton? Arturo Vega?

mike a, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)

"withdrawn"

= noticed that he could make more money on the regular auction circuit & just f*cked off?

StanM, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 19:18 (eighteen years ago)

Um, no it's still going, now it's up to £4,100 and the fisherman is in the lead.

Mark G, Thursday, 1 November 2007 02:09 (eighteen years ago)

They don't mean the auction was withdrawn, I think they mean the single was withdrawn from the shops at the time.

musically, Thursday, 1 November 2007 03:01 (eighteen years ago)

Oh! Of course. Duh. Ignore what I said...

StanM, Thursday, 1 November 2007 03:53 (eighteen years ago)

Seven mins to go: Current leader also needs parts for his Ford car.

Mark G, Thursday, 1 November 2007 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

oh, £4,200 at the mo.

No doubt, those 'last minute' bidder snipers will send this higher.

Mark G, Thursday, 1 November 2007 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

4k for a 20k record is good business.

The Wayward Johnny B, Thursday, 1 November 2007 11:24 (eighteen years ago)

Numbers be jumpin (last minute)

Mark G, Thursday, 1 November 2007 11:27 (eighteen years ago)

£5,095 it went for.

So, whichever way you look at it, it wasn't Noel.

Mark G, Thursday, 1 November 2007 11:29 (eighteen years ago)

You know, if I'd had a spare £90 back in 1981, I'd have had one of these.

Mark G, Thursday, 1 November 2007 11:30 (eighteen years ago)

Seller's an idiot, because of his attitude in answering questions and because he couldn't be arsed to borrow a decent camera and put up some good pics he's lost out on 10-15 grand. Assuming that it's genuine.

Billy Dods, Thursday, 1 November 2007 11:48 (eighteen years ago)

The shop "Beanos" sold one recently which went for £7,000

So, he lost out on around £2,000 maybe.

And if he'd actually put more detail in his ad, could have pushed it higher.

One of the bidders asked how he came by such an item. Naturally, the story isn't going to be of the 'oh, I got it at lewisham Oxfam' or some such. But a bit of history/context would have worked wonders.

Mark G, Thursday, 1 November 2007 12:18 (eighteen years ago)

two months pass...

Now, here we are a few months later. Hmm, how did this go in the end?

Interested?

http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=gunner2406&ftab=AllFeedback

Actually, the virulence of some of those feedbacks is quite scary. People who would threaten violence over a 5p Monkees single.

Having said that, some of them seem too recent to be for real...

Mark G, Thursday, 17 January 2008 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

.. looks like one very angry bidder decided to win loads of auctions and post lots of negative feedbacks.

lol who would drop $10000 on a record from some cell-phone picture?

elan, Friday, 18 January 2008 03:04 (eighteen years ago)

and a sex pistols record at that?

elan, Friday, 18 January 2008 03:05 (eighteen years ago)

Some psycho bidders, for sure!

Mark G, Friday, 18 January 2008 08:43 (eighteen years ago)

i want my jam lp... so i'm going to drown you!

elan, Friday, 18 January 2008 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

that's why i moved to being insane about dance records, because at least then it's all PLUR, brah.

the table is the table, Friday, 18 January 2008 19:26 (eighteen years ago)

it boggles my mind that eBay has not suspended this acount. a lot of the positive feedback is very suspicious as well - tons of ones from the same person, all items for a penny.
