Coke rock mix

I'm making a mix of thin sounding, wiry rock songs (that are maybe up tempo or something, cause I'm gonna play it at a party) clearly made under the influence of a shit ton of cocaine.

So far I've come up with obviously something by David Bowie, probably off of Low or Heroes or Station to Station, some Talking Heads, Shattered by the Rolling Stones, late 70s Iggy

What else do you have?

You're going to need something off of Tusk for sure.

Oh god yeah. One of the Lindsey Buckingham songs.

Give a listen to Gene Clark's "No Other" record.

don't forget blondie. there's a little record called parallel lines

kamerad, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 03:43 (eighteen years ago)

Speaking of wiry, Wire's "Two People in a Room" would fit in nicely. I'm not sure how coke-influenced it was in real life, but it's driving, and deadly intense. Plus, it's one of the greatest songs OF ALL TIME.

Gotta go with the ironic choices as well: White Lines.

Interpol - Obstacle 1, PDA

stephen, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 18:06 (eighteen years ago)

also, i seem to recall (from some interview or another) that the Cure's album Faith was made while Robert especially was off his face on cocaine. not a very thin/wiry sounding album though, so i'm not sure if that helps.

stephen, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 18:07 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not planning on doing any coke, though I can't vouch for anyone else. I just thought it would be a funny idea.

Telegram sam is a good one. Maybe some Brian Eno fits.

The more paranoid and ranty the better.

something off More Songs About Buildings and Food

some Sabbath for sure

Matos W.K., Wednesday, 31 October 2007 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

I was just going through Talking Heads songs, seeing which ones would fit, and for a while was going through some of the funkier stuff off More Songs about Buildings and Food but when I stopped at Seen and Not Seen from Remain in Light with his crazy as diatribe about facial structure I just knew this was completely coke fueled and appropriate.

SIR NOSE D'

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

For Bowie I'm leaning towards Golden Years. It's on Station to Station, an album produced on so much of the stuff he doesn't remember making it, and people will know it.

filthy dylan, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 18:55 (eighteen years ago)

I think Sabbath's Vol. 4 and Miles' On the Corner are often listed as quintissential "cocaine albums". The mellotron on "Changes" almost perfectly mimics the sound going on in my head when enjoying some of the Bolivian Marching Powder.

I can't believe I forgot... Nico.

then the snow starts to fall...

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

This certainly isn't light and stretch thin by any means, but ANYTHING where music is being played where cocaine is the theme needs to play:

Dillinger "Cocaine In My Brain"
Renegade Soundwave "Cocaine Sex"

"Cocaine Sex" samples the monster snares from "When The Levee Breaks" so it kinda qualifies as "rock", maybe.

Dillinger gets a free pass for rock in this context.
