I feel I have to vote Pleasant Street but I honestly love all the tracks.

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

I was *that* close to voting Phantasmagoria in Two though.

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe I should've picked Starsailor as a poll

Best Track On Tim Buckley - Starsailor

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

'morning glory' for me, though that stupid choir almost tanks it. almost. i mean, shit, you've got tim freaking buckley, and you need backup singers??

bug, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 22:44 (eighteen years ago)

I once heard a really bad version on Radio 1 of Pleasant Street by some crappy english band, must've been about 5 years ago or more. Probably on the evening session.

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 14 February 2008 00:19 (eighteen years ago)

fantastic set of songs on this one

'carnival song' is creepy and otherworldly. 'pleasant street' is beautiful. but i think i'm going to have to go for 'phantasmagoria in two', which is achingly sad and brilliantly sung

Charlie Howard, Thursday, 14 February 2008 01:53 (eighteen years ago)

phantasmagoria in two

Billy Pilgrim, Thursday, 14 February 2008 02:05 (eighteen years ago)

He sounds really like Micky Dolenz on "I Never Asked to Be Your Mountain"

OTM Tom D - I have been saying this for years, normally in a spirited "defend the Monkees" argument coupled with he appeared on the last ever Monkees episode.

Oh and I'll vote for the "...Mountain" as well.

Guilty_Boksen, Thursday, 14 February 2008 12:41 (eighteen years ago)

I used to watch "The Monkees" quite frequently (practically every weekday) back around 1976-77-78, and never once saw that episode - or the one with Zappa, for that matter. Wonder if they're out of circulation/syndication for some reason...anyways, "Hallucinations" for me.

Same here... could The Evil Herb Cohen be behind this?

Tom D., Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

It's the very last Monkees episode, and I managed to get this on "The Monkees' Favourite Episode" DVD. And the kids love it.

Mark G, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

Not seen it. I used to watch them as a kid on tv (repeats late 70s early 80s obviously)

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 15 February 2008 14:02 (eighteen years ago)

so we're looking at about 8 votes total then...

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

Even Geir hasn't posted. I thought this would be the one Tim Buckley album he might like.

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

Well I'm going for "Morning glory", because I love that choir.

Rob M v2, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 18:57 (eighteen years ago)

bug will be mad

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

haha, nah, i'm not mad. it's a wonderful song.

bug, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

It is. Even split of votes, eh? It is a strong album but I thought Pleasant Street would've done better.

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

There isn't a bad track on this album is there?

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 21 February 2008 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

nope, not a bad track.
'i never asked to be your mountain' is perhaps my least favourite, but even that's a really potent, heart-wrenching song that addresses tim's anguish and despair at his collapsed marriage and estrangement from his child.

though 'dream letter' is even more powerful in that respect

Charlie Howard, Sunday, 13 April 2008 12:58 (eighteen years ago)

ten years pass...

I've recently got the beautiful compilation of acoustic demos from this time period 'Lady, Give Me Your Key'. It includes demos of 6 of the Goodbye and Hello tracks. Funnily enough, I thought of the four songs which are not included as my favourites on this album: Phantasmagoria In Two, Hallucinations, G&H, Morning Glory. But all of those other songs are amazing too and I keep being impressed hearing them on this demo compilation.
So as others said in the past on this thread & I feel the need to repost ten years later: there's really no bad song on this album!

Thinking especially highly of Once I Was now.
And sometimes I wonder
Just for a while
Will you ever remember me

Intensely beautiful.

Valentijn, Tuesday, 17 April 2018 13:35 (eight years ago)

cf. "The Dolphins" (released earlier that same year, and eventually covered by Tim) by kindred spirit Fred Neil:

And sometimes I wonder
Do you ever think of me
