Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 06:34 (eighteen years ago)

I love this soundtrack. Nick Cave and Brandy and Seal and Method Man--so many hot singles, yet who is this soundtrack's target audience?!

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 06:36 (eighteen years ago)

The first girl I ever had a serious crush on had this soundtrack. :D

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 06:36 (eighteen years ago)

there's even 'serious crush' material on the soundtrack - sunny day real estate!

Charlie Howard, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 06:38 (eighteen years ago)

How many singles were on this?

Seal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ateQQc-AgEM
U2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31bd0bNI-jA
Method Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uVBa-qyLiw

I bet you could glean the entire plot of the movie just by watching those videos.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 06:46 (eighteen years ago)

this is the first u2 song i ever heard and it gave me a seriously confused view of their oevure

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 06:51 (eighteen years ago)

I remember I was so fucking pissed when "There Is a Light" wasn't on the Nick Cave rarities box. WTF, Nick?

Telephone thing, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 07:00 (eighteen years ago)

this has the only U2 song I ever liked. But Seal wins.

Roz, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 07:00 (eighteen years ago)

seal is going to run away with this, and he should, thats like the best song probably ever, but there is so much good shit on this CD

max, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 07:02 (eighteen years ago)

who is this soundtrack's target audience?!

middle schoolers, i think

max, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 07:02 (eighteen years ago)

That's when I got it, doesn't seem to have done me any harm other than being responsible for me buying Nocturama however many years later.

Telephone thing, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 07:06 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i got it in middle school and like every song on it i think

max, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 07:19 (eighteen years ago)

probably didnt admit to liking the seal track tho

max, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 07:19 (eighteen years ago)

this has the only U2 song I ever liked

Same here. Well, this and New Year's Day. I think I'll vote for Seal though, cos they'll still be playin it on Magic FM in like 300 years.

chap, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

"Smash It Up" - The Offspring (The Damned cover)– 3:26

Why?

Mark G, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

Had no idea that track was by the Flaming Lips. Always thought it was great, and really well placed, in the film. I spose the explanation is simply that my likings for the film and the band didn't coincide.

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

even though i've gone off the lips somewhat, that is a very good song and i might vote for it yet...

Charlie Howard, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 10:54 (eighteen years ago)

I remember being astounded by that Seal tune, like I had no idea he was capable of something like that a capella section…or maybe that's Trevor Horn?

funny that that U2 tune could be the first that someone heard… it is very very good…

Veronica Moser, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 12:44 (eighteen years ago)

That Offspring cover was a single too! It was played enough on alt-rock stations back in the day to be one at least.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 13:05 (eighteen years ago)

funny that that U2 tune could be the first that someone heard

i'll say. u2 were without doubt the most ubiquitous band from my youth.

Charlie Howard, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 13:06 (eighteen years ago)

Is it just me, or is that U2 song the last unquestionably great thing they did?

Sara Sara Sara, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 13:23 (eighteen years ago)

I like all the singles but love Massive Attack's Marvelettes cover.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

Seal. Most most most most definitely.

myndbloom, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

i think i prefer the batman & robin soundtrack

Tape Store, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

this is one of my favorite albums, i finally hunted down the promo only double vinyl version. the CD is one of the best bargain bin values out there, i recommend it to everyone.

the seal joint is one of my all time favorite songs (one of the ones i have listened to 40+ times in a row to try to see if it ever got old, it didnt) but because it was on his album first i didnt pick it for this poll. i decided to go with the brandy track due to the ill lenny kravitz work and the fact that it was exclusive. i also love the massive attack, mazzy star, and method man joints too. really the whole thing is dope except the offspring joint.

pipecock, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

Is it just me, or is that U2 song the last unquestionably great thing they did?

It probably is. Certainly nothing they've done since springs to mind. It's the last time Bono's ego and singing persona helped one of their songs rather than being a massive hindrance.

snoball, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

the flaming lips song was also a single.

Creeztophair, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 21:15 (eighteen years ago)

It's awesome "Kiss From A Rose" is getting this much love -- it certainly didn't in 1995.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 21:18 (eighteen years ago)

"It's awesome "Kiss From A Rose" is getting this much love -- it certainly didn't in 1995.

-- Alfred, Lord Sotosyn"

you mean the year it won grammys for song of the year and record of the year?

pipecock, Thursday, 27 March 2008 01:06 (eighteen years ago)

Uh, from fans, bub. I thought Seal was ok to pretty good then: the first album had some killer (no pun intended) tunes and production, the second was more of the same.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 27 March 2008 01:07 (eighteen years ago)

i love those first 2 Seal records. i wasn't into him until "Kiss From A Rose", but then i went back and i am down.

pipecock, Thursday, 27 March 2008 01:08 (eighteen years ago)

"Kiss From a Rose" is awesome because it has a great fucking melody. Point blank.

The Reverend, Thursday, 27 March 2008 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

that song was EVERYWHERE when it came out

ill lenny kravitz work

uuhhhh

winston, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

"uuhhhh

-- winston"

just listen to it, IIRC he played all the instruments and produced it. probably the best thing he's ever been involved with.

pipecock, Friday, 28 March 2008 00:45 (eighteen years ago)

in 7th grade i used "kiss from a rose" on a mixtape i made some girl

I remember I was so fucking pissed when "There Is a Light" wasn't on the Nick Cave rarities box. WTF, Nick?

cos it's a Bad Seeds rarities box, not a Nick solo rarities box.

milo z, Sunday, 27 April 2008 06:43 (eighteen years ago)

Even though they themselves hate the track, I'm going with the Massive Attack song.
