Like mods and rockers, only rubbish.

Bodrick III, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:35 (eighteen years ago)

yeah but when did mods and rockers generate riot police ? this shit is too post-modern.i dont know whether too laugh or cry.

oscar, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:38 (eighteen years ago)

"They're organizing to defend their right to be emo," wrote Daniel Hernandez of LA Weekly on his personal blog, which has provided stellar coverage of the whole affair.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, the fact that the news stations are turning this into a ROFFLE-fest is kinda perplexing.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

How widespread was the mods v rockers thing anyway? Heard that it's a bit of an urban legend they were natural enemies, exaggerated in Quadrophenia.

I remember moshers vs scallies at my school, and it's still going ten years later.

Who are the emos fighting? Says "punks" but I don't see a lot of differences there. The anti-emo kids look a bit scruffier?

Bodrick III, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

whoa.

Z S, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:50 (eighteen years ago)

This is really fucking weird and sad and sounds outta Mad Max or something, but I don't see the lolz.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:52 (eighteen years ago)

yeah. i agree w hoos sentiment. this shit is unreal. at least these kids are doing something instead of spending all their time locked up in their rooms on message boards talking bullshit though. its just the fact they are doing over it over something so ridiculous is the sad part.

oscar, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:56 (eighteen years ago)

I don't see how it is so weird, gangs of kids have fighting since forever.

Bodrick III, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

Did you even read the article?

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:58 (eighteen years ago)

Yes.

People marching for their rights getting a kicking? Sadly not a new thing either.

Bodrick III, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

Gangs of kids fighting is not weird. Press coverage, riots, police, protests, webdomains being generated over this shit etc. that is weird. Or maybe the press is bored ? Who knows ?

oscar, Friday, 28 March 2008 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

OK, the scale of it is crazy, I admit. But I am not particularly surprised.

Bodrick III, Friday, 28 March 2008 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

Uh. The marching for their rights is in response to the kickings they've been getting. xxp

Yeah, the fact that the news stations are turning this into a ROFFLE-fest is kinda perplexing.

From an American perspective, it's kind of hard not to. I mean, 'emo kids' here are just the ones with funny haircuts and girl jeans (and waning popularity). It's pretty difficult to think of them as a unique subculture with this level of identification (and conversely, this amount of hatred being felt toward them).

This story (not the dino one) just makes me heart the emo and the emosexuality all the more. The accompanying photo says it all. Now that it's hated on by homophobes, is emo the new disco?

briania, Saturday, 29 March 2008 05:05 (eighteen years ago)

carne asada, Saturday, 29 March 2008 05:08 (eighteen years ago)

What was the context of the unexpected appearance of the Hare Krishnas towards the end of the video?

moley, Saturday, 29 March 2008 05:16 (eighteen years ago)

they were trying to calm the crowd via hare krishna love ;)
