How do I merge two itunes libraries without losing all my datas?

So I have two powerbooks with separate itunes libraries and they're both rapidly dying so I'm trying to move them over to my new macbook. Is there a way to merge the two separate libraries into one on the new machine without losing all the playlist/playcount data from one of the libraries? I've done some googling which suggests that I'm going to lose some of this data, but I figured someone here would know for certain if it's possible.

eh just export the playlists start over and say goodbye to your playcounts

I've migrated one library from a machine to another without losing its data, but I don't think you can *automatically* preserve both sets of data. You could manually add the data of the other machine to the new one, but that's a lot of work and you'd have to be pretty intense to do that. Of course, if you're asking...

Is it worth 30 bucks to you?

Might be able to do it with this "export selected tracks to XML" script

http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts03.php

or some combo of the huge number of scripts on this site.

The iTunes metadata is just one easily-parsable XML file; anyone with an hour to kill, knowledge of some XML libs, and motivation, could likely whip out a merge tool with ease. I'd do it, but I'm pretty low on #3.

Yeah this seems to be one of those things I'm anal enough to want to do, but not motivated enough to actually work through. I'll just export the playlists. I'm surprised Apple doesn't have a way to do this though.
