Who are present day musicians (or bands) that you love/appreciate the most even though:
1)they have lots of clunkers
2)their last album/s weren't that great or even good
3)they joined bands that suck
4)they don't release enough material and
5)they don't have a large quantity of outstanding songs
???
I'll start:
Jim Guthrie - This guy has an album called 'A Thousand Songs' from '99
that that has songs that blow me away and I enjoy listening to over and over to this day (pitchfork gave it a 7.5). There are lots of clunkers on that album as well. His 'Now, More Than Ever' album from 2003 was pretty good but it was much more happy and orchestralized than 'A Thousand Songs' (pitchfork gave it a 8.2 anyways). Despite the fact that I only listen to a few songs of his, they still make me crave for a new album (and not some Royal City or Islands stuff).
Jim O'Rourke - I only listen to his stuff from Insignificance, Eureka, Halfway to Threeway, and occasionally Bad Timing. He has way too many collaborations that are just experimental techno and he needs to get back to songs like those on Insignificance. I've been waiting for another one of those kind of albums forever. A few of his Loose Fur tracks are nice though.
Archer Prewitt - His last album left something to be desired. He also has many clunkers and a limited supply of albums.
Overall these are the top 3 spotty musicians that I love the most. I anticipate new albums by them more than any other spotty musicians whom I enjoy because they seem more capable of making great music. Also, the other spotty musicians that I like seem to let me down more often and they don't have strong points that are as great or numerous as my top 3.
Who are the top 3 spotty musicians that you anticipate the most?
When I use the word 'spotty' I mean that they haven't released much of anything or done anything decent for a long while. Basically all the criteria at the top of this post. Picture of my dog is unrelated.

Will of course always respect Paul McCartney a lot even though his solo output has always been patchier than the genius stuff he did in the 60s with The Beatles.
Peter Gabriel releases way too little these days, but his "proper" albums (that is, the ones with actual songs rather than just sound collages) have all been excellent whenever he has put out something.
