Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 08:45 (eighteen years ago)

Voted Queen because "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" is better than anything else in the list ("Bohemian Rhapsody" is of course the best single ever released, but isn't really from 1991)

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 08:46 (eighteen years ago)

Freddie's last single and still pretending he's straight, living for his kids and that.

Sad, really. Everyone knew he was gay, still...

Mark G, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 08:56 (eighteen years ago)

"I Can Move, Move, Move Any Mountain!"

zeus, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 09:17 (eighteen years ago)

3am eternal!!!

the next grozart, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 09:17 (eighteen years ago)

Freddie's last single and still pretending he's straight, living for his kids and that.

Apart from obvious exceptions like Erasure, Bronski Beat, Village People and Tom Robinson, isn't this something that more or less everyone does, really?

I mean, Elton John, for instance?

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 11:35 (eighteen years ago)

um, i don't think elton john is pretending to be straight.

color me badd getts my votte, my cousins and i spent a summer learning all the pits barber shop style. tragic, but great.

darraghmac, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 12:05 (eighteen years ago)

ah, the memories. voted for the waterboys as its the one i now have stuck in my head & have an itch to hear after reading the list.

klf second

fantasimundo, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 12:33 (eighteen years ago)

Elton has been gay for ages (out, I mean..), even when he was married to renate. But his songs have generally been more 'everyman' anthems than explorations of his own psyche (especially as Bernie wroter the wordser), it took until "I want love" and that album the name escapes me, before that became the default standpoint for himself.

Whereas Fred, gorblessem, always sung from his own position about himself. Sure, his private life is his own affair, but its sad that even in his last days he'd sing about settling down and living life through kids, and his audience were all going "mm, righto Fred"...

Mark G, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:37 (eighteen years ago)

KLF IS GONNA ROCK YA

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

gay artists can only sing about being gay?

darraghmac, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 14:14 (eighteen years ago)

seal and trevor horn.

or something, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

There are some massively awesome songs on here next to irredeemable shit.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 20:03 (eighteen years ago)

No doubt KLF will walk this. But ... it's got to be 'Charly', don't it?

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 20:26 (eighteen years ago)

I love that Bernie Taupin wrote all those songs about hard men living hard lives to be performed by a complete princess.

Abbott, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

do the bartman

jeremy waters, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

Charly says...

chap, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 23:44 (eighteen years ago)

stuck between "you could be mine" and "3am eternal"

of course not.

3am eternal

electricsound, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 06:54 (eighteen years ago)

Gypsy Woman because I LOVED that song at the time.

Autumn Almanac, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 12:15 (eighteen years ago)

"Gypsy Woman" is among the songs I have hated most of all of all time. Extremely annoying repetitive "La-ba-dee, la-ba-daoooo". Let RCCL keep Labadee to themselves!

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

problem is though that the KLF will geta split vote across their 3 classics giving the chance of some other shyte grabbing the top spot.
of course the answer is Justified and Ancient, but can i please have a multiple option vote so i can drop a tick on the other KLF tracks cos they are all brilliant ?

mark e, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

I went with Justified and Ancient. Because I am, on both counts.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

three months pass...

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, OK, now I understand why the results from these polls suddenly stopped appearing :)

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 23:15 (seventeen years ago)

I'm glad I can cast my vote. It goes to

THREE A-E-M ETERNAAAAAL!

daavid, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 23:28 (seventeen years ago)

with Nomad on a close second, although mostly for nostalgia reasons.

daavid, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 23:30 (seventeen years ago)

anyone who doesn't vote KLF is wrong.

the next grozart, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

...although i'll allow anyone who stands up and votes for two in a room.

the next grozart, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 23:53 (seventeen years ago)

"Gypsy Woman" is among the songs I have hated most of all of all time.
-- Geir Hongro

Darn it all, I didn't read this until after I voted for "Gypsy Woman." Oh well.

Eric H., Thursday, 28 August 2008 00:00 (seventeen years ago)

Also came close to voting for:

The Simpsons Do The Bartman
The KLF featuring The Children Of The Revolution 3AM Eternal
2 Unlimited Get Ready For This
The Shamen Move Any Mountain
Paula Abdul Rush Rush

Eric H., Thursday, 28 August 2008 00:02 (seventeen years ago)

not source feat candi statton?

ledge, Thursday, 28 August 2008 00:03 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry Shamen, "You Got the Love" and the Prodigy, but it's gotta be the KLF. But which of the three...? So tough!

This was the year I started caring about pop and despite some unutterable shite on the list it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. The Scorpions seem kind of out of place at 22nd. Are these in order?

a passing spacecadet, Thursday, 28 August 2008 09:43 (seventeen years ago)

My faves at the time were The Source, Nomad, Last Train To Transcentral, Oceanic, Prodigy, Shamen and James. And the Clash but seems wrong to vote for them in a 1991 poll.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 28 August 2008 09:59 (seventeen years ago)

THE KLF >>> the rest of the world in '91

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 28 August 2008 10:09 (seventeen years ago)

>>> the rest of the dance world at least.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 28 August 2008 10:28 (seventeen years ago)

So I voted for "Last Train to Trancentral" and now feel kind of bad for "Move Any Mountain" and "Justified and Ancient", but I'm sure the latter at least will receive plenty of votes. "Charly" is obviously classic too but too overshadowed by "Out of Space" for my vote, whereas '91 has the KLF at the top of their game.

I don't think that made any sense, but still.

a passing spacecadet, Thursday, 28 August 2008 12:14 (seventeen years ago)

The bass drop alone on "Charly" wins this for me.

myndbloom, Thursday, 28 August 2008 13:43 (seventeen years ago)

i originally had 3am Eternal ticked, but then saw "Chorus" in the list and had to vote for that, as I have a strange, inexplicable attachment to what I consider Erasure's finest moment (ok, maybe outside of "Rock Me Gently")

rentboy, Thursday, 28 August 2008 13:54 (seventeen years ago)

Amy Grant, "Baby Baby".
Memories...

DavidM, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:28 (seventeen years ago)

No, that was "The Way We Were."

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:42 (seventeen years ago)

not a sound from the pavement..

(i know, it was a singular!)

Mark G, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:50 (seventeen years ago)

That is inaccurates. 1991 saw the release of the single version of "Summer Babe."

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:59 (seventeen years ago)

THE KLF >>> the rest of the world in '91

daavid, Thursday, 28 August 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Thursday, 28 August 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

ain't this a bitcvh

PappaWheelie V, Thursday, 28 August 2008 23:32 (seventeen years ago)

Shit, shoulda voted for Charly.

chap, Friday, 29 August 2008 00:15 (seventeen years ago)

This seems pretty fair until you realise Stonk has more votes (er, vote) than Let's Talk About Sex.

a passing spacecadet, Friday, 29 August 2008 08:19 (seventeen years ago)

Ha! Bryan Adams whose crimes against humanity are worse than Saddam's (dig the internal rhyming scheme there) down at the bottom where he belongs.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 29 August 2008 08:28 (seventeen years ago)

I nearly voted for Transcentral, talk about a clean sweep!

Mark G, Friday, 29 August 2008 08:45 (seventeen years ago)

The KLF dominance is hardly a huge surprise, I guess :)
