It's a fave but doesn't make any sense outside the context of the rest of his career, so I couldn't vote for it in good conscience. Also I don't think it's as good as "Can't Knock the Hustle."

there were a bunch of songs from Vol. 1 that weren't singles but he made videos for them in Streets Is Watching and some of them got play on BET, that was one of them.

"99 Problems" is cool, it was just at the tail end of my top 10. Probably the best solo single he's released since either Blueprint or Blueprint 2 (depending on how much you like "La La La"), but that's not saying much.

i don't mind '99 problems', not hating on it, but if you think it's better than [insert at least 10 other jay-z singles here] you are completely insane and wrong

Yeah, but that's kind of a given, since it was just a 'buzz single' that didn't have a video, unlike most of the others.

Real most underrated would have to be some pre-Hard Knock track besides "Ain't No," probably "Who You Wit," which was great and probably the first Jay-Z track I was really into (technically "Who You Wit II" is on this list, but it was the first version that was a single).

I think it's more just the way those 2 albums both tower over his others in the esteem of a lot of magazine editors and other types of herbs that's problematic, they're both good records.

before Kingdom Come it felt like some kind of weird "all albums with numbers and/or colons in their names must be bad, it's the ones with simple straightforward 'classic album title'-type names that are great" philosophy going on.

i don't listen to blueprint much anymore but i love RD so much, i love how his style was back then when he was faster and more jaz-o influenced.

i think vol. 1 does a better job of that even

to be honest i haven't listened to vol on in a super long time.

i also really like his vol 2/3-ish midperiod style before he got all slowed down with blueprint
