So much goodness.

I'm having a hard time choosing myself. If anything my complaint is with the Congos song selection, 'Children Crying', 'Fisherman', 'Open up the Gate' or 'Ark of the Covenant' are imho the best ones on the album and they're criminally ignored in here.

Splitting it up on 3 polls instead of one would have been a probably wiser idea.

Heptones are even poorer represented.

I love "Don't Blame It On I", but it would perverse to pick it.

"Roast Fish and Cornbread" is the most-wide open, desolate dub I've ever heard. Plus, it's about food.

The full length version of 'Roots Train' is one of the greatest things in modern music.

Yeah, this in one of my desert island discs.

Toss up for me between Devon Irons - Vampire and Errol Walker - In These Times ... Vampire gets my vote because of the sublime connection to Walker is just too big of a turn off.

Used to have it taped on cassettes, years ago. But no' mo'.

Vampire is my choice although One Step Forward is also at the top of my list. a bit of a standard choice but i love it. the long version of Vampire called Ketch Vampire with Dr. Alimantado is pretty good too.

I voted for Vibrate On, though it was as others have said a tough decision.

Slightly off topic, but my favourite Perry-produced track is Croaking Lizard by Prince Jazzbo, which uses the Chase The Devil rhythm. That for me has all the Perry elements I love, in the right measure.

As great as this comp is I actually might like Open The Gate & Build The Ark a touch more. I still can't decide what to vote on.

yeah the 80 versions of the Police n Thieves riddim is a bit much IMO

I'd agree re. repition issues. But there's some lovely stuff on here.

Unfortunately my copy is on the other side of the world and struggling to recall much of this.

otm. I actually never listened to the whole comp straight, I like sprinkling reggae/dub/roots with different genres otherwise I find myself feeling wearisome after the first couple of songs.

Didn't say I hated repetition in Jamaican music, or elsewhere for that matter (e.g. Terry Riley, Philip Glass) - because I don't.

But I find this comp a bit uninspired in the sequencing and choice of tracks.

i voted for "mr president" but there really is a lot fo good stuff here.
