It's a whole not a clutch of tracks but "Jimi", so obv.

I object to these song titles

shit was shocking as fuck back then (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 23 April 2009 18:31 (seventeen years ago)

This reminds me I need to do a poll on Julio and Enrique Iglesias albums called "Pollo Iglesias".

uncannydan, Thursday, 23 April 2009 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

"They be tellin Julio Iglesias what to sing - right now"

Always loved "Johnny Smoke" (ten-foot-tall Texas tale, interrupted by overblown "heroic" climaxes). That idiotically enthusiastic audience-noise grafted on top is a nice hilarious touch, kinda like "[Famous Guitarist] Shreds" 20 years early.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Thursday, 23 April 2009 20:11 (seventeen years ago)

"Jimi" aka "fecal baseball picture" is one of my fave Surfers jams so that, easy. Does anybody know where those song names came from? Setlists?

sleeve, Thursday, 23 April 2009 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

yeah I was gonna apologize for not putting the descriptions of the pictures, but I actually ahve never owned a legitimate copy of this album (someday I'll fix this), so I don't really know what the pictures are...

the song-titles, if I'm not mistaken, come from the Double Live Bootleg that the Surfers put out some years back...

'sgot more actual SONGS!

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 24 April 2009 09:02 (seventeen years ago)

Their last worthwhile release! They always trod a fine line between surreal horror and wacky hi-jinks, songs like John E Smoke were starting to tip the balance by this point methinks. X-Ray Of A Girl is still my fave.

I pulled out my cassette of this and the receipt was still inside, check out the date, lol

Hairway to Steven was recorded at one studio in a relatively short period of time. According to bassist Jeff Pinkus, the band had been performing most of these songs for years before recording them for this album. Many of the band's previous releases had been piecework affairs, recorded over several months in numerous studios, and their songs underwent far more in-studio development.

The Surfers opted to follow this album's blueprint on future recordings, entering the studio with more fully formed songs than they had in the past. Pinkus has expressed the opinion that these better-organized recording sessions stifled much of the spontaneous creativity that had propelled the group's previous albums.

I prefer the version of "jimi" that was released as "flame grape" on a texas trip

鬼の手 (Edward III), Friday, 24 April 2009 13:46 (seventeen years ago)

was a texas trip never reissued? that's such a great comp.

鬼の手 (Edward III), Friday, 24 April 2009 13:48 (seventeen years ago)

Their last worthwhile release

Wait, Double Live, Widowermaker and the Hole Truth are also great! Voting Jimi.

dad a, Friday, 24 April 2009 13:50 (seventeen years ago)

A Texas Trip is great and is it also the only official release of Stick Men With Ray Guns? At least until the CD came out a few years ago?

Who are these haters btw? I thought this album was pretty much universally loved by Butthole Surfers fans, albeit not as much as Locust or Another Man's Sac.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Friday, 24 April 2009 13:53 (seventeen years ago)

I just mean, BH Surfers' haters in general who say that they never made a halfway decent album ever...

Ah right fair enough.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Friday, 24 April 2009 13:55 (seventeen years ago)

xpost like this guy, waiting in the wings until the Surfers' glory had faded before lashing out nastily...

鬼の手 (Edward III), Friday, 24 April 2009 14:01 (seventeen years ago)

"jimi" is cool and everything but "flame grape" gets the squids squirming out of the walls to swim in the transparent radiation if you catch my drift

鬼の手 (Edward III), Friday, 24 April 2009 14:03 (seventeen years ago)

great album...need to think on this

Local Garda, Friday, 24 April 2009 14:06 (seventeen years ago)

Backass. Nothing against the other tracks, but their ultimate jam isn't Jimi, IMHO, it's Psychedelic Jam. (before it got lyrics and became P.S.Y.)

StanM, Friday, 24 April 2009 15:11 (seventeen years ago)

X-Ray for that guitar solo.
